We may have to fix the bit on Mullins MMA record. From The Oklahoman today: Mullin’s Senate biography says he had an undefeated 5-0 record in The Octagon, the eight-sided MMA ring, and is a member of the Oklahoma Wrestling Hall of Fame. MMA sites Tapology and Sherdog each list him with a 3-0 record in matches in 2006 and 2007. The WP:MOS, specifically WP:NATIONALITY, supports adding dual citizenship to the first sentence. First, it says The opening paragraph should usually provide context for the activities that made the person notable. In most modern-day cases, this will be the country, region, or territory, where the person is currently a citizen, national, or permanent resident; Mullin is a citizen and resident of the Cherokee Nation and he is notable as the only Native American in the Senate. All of those factors favor inclusion.
Secondly, the guidance specific to Native Americans favors its inclusion Native American and Indigenous Canadian status is based on citizenship, not race. Indigenous people's citizenship can be listed parenthetically, or as a clause after their names. We have a line in the MOS about including this information in the first sentence of the lede. Is there consensus to keep a mention of his Cherokee Nation citizenship in the first sentence of the lede? TulsaPoliticsFan (talk) 20:36, 16 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
