editI want to post about the Latest revision as of 18:21, 24 August 2012 (edit) (undo) MatthewVanitas. The revision was for "(Rmving far excessive cats (please see WP:CAT))." The categories removed were Category:Kurdistan, Category:Kurdish people, Category:Islam-related controversies, Category:Islamic terrorism, Category:Iraqi Kurdistan, Category:Iraq, Category:Iraqi people, Category:Fatwas. For the following reasons, I do not understand why the categories were removed, and what was accomplished.
Category:Kurdistan -- The events occurred in Kurdistan, and involved both the Kurdish government and the Kurdish people.
Category:Kurdish people -- Mariwan Halabjaee is Kurdish. All of the primary actors are Kurdish. The events concerned the Kurdish people.
Category:Islam-related controversies -- The incidents concerned two well-publicized Islamic death Fatwas. Both controversies were clearly related to Islam in that Islam provided the stated reasons and rationale for the death threats.
Category:Islamic terrorism -- The article notes two incidents of Islamic terrorism on two continents.
Category:Iraqi Kurdistan -- The events occurred in Iraqi Kurdistan, and involved both the government of Iraqi Kurdistan and the people of Iraqi Kurdistan.
Category:Iraq -- Given the political reality and relevant boundaries, the events also occurred in Iraq, and involved both the government of Iraq and the people of Iraq.
Category:Iraqi people -- Again, the political reality and relevant boundaries, the events also involved Iraqi people.
Category:Fatwas -- The article reflects and documents two different death fatwas on two different continents. What more is needed?
Again, the questions are: What is accomplished by removing these categories? Given the above, how are the categories not relevant? Does not removing the categories impede, rather than enhance, searches on Wikipedia?
For the foregoing reasons, I believe removal of the categories makes Wikipedia less useful. If, for example, someone is looking in the category of Fatwas, they will not see the two well-publicized Fatwas at issue here. If, for example, someone is researching in the category of Islam-related controversies, he or she will not be informed of these two well-publicized Islam-related controversies. Vandalism
editI only skimmed it, but this page has clearly been extensively vandalized. Ridiculous quotes are attributed to Halabjee, and insults such as "gay" and "liar" are used in the text. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.126.71.11 (talk) 08:10, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
