POV edit

The last paragraph sounds like it came from his PR manager. There's certainly some truth to what is said, but it seems excessively adulatory.

I also put back the statement about his 2004 suspension, and his placings in the 2001 and 2004 WSM contests. It looks like the same person(s) that added the last paragraph edited out anything remotely negative. There doesn't seem to be any reason to leave this out, since it's a simple statement of facts (as long as there's no speculation about the specifics of the suspension). Dsreyn 12:33, 14 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Just noticed that some anon removed my POV comment. If others disagree about the POV issue, it should be discussed here. Dsreyn 02:40, 23 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

The 450 KG squat and 320 KG bench at the bottom are surely not true also. Steve Kirit wrote a writeup on mariurz thats is posted somewhere on Jesse Marunde's web page and as I recall it was something around 280 KG for 2 reps. Bench Press as I recall was much lower. Somewhere in the 255-275 KG range. I also think the measurements in the thigh and possibly chest are inflated a bit. Having said all of that there is no doubt Mauriusz is incredible so I see no reason for anyone to have to inflate his static strength.

There is no reason to include a claim of lift weight that is not a verified lift in competition, or has been observed and verified by a neutral observer. Otherwise it's just speculation. At a minimum, it should read "Pudzianowski is alleged to have lifted xxxxx"

Also, if there is to be mention of the outcome of his 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005 entries in the Met Rx Strongman competition, then there should be a full accounting of the 2004 result as well. In addition to being disqualified and suspended, he was forced to return his prize money, and was stripped of his ranking points. When he tested positive for the banned substance, he admitted guilt and waived his right to have a B sample tested.

Also the statement "Mariusz ... tries to maintain his modesty and keep sportsmanship his top priority" is somewhere between unsubstantiated opinion and public relations statement. An athlete from whom "sportsmanship [is] his top priority," would not knowingly, willfully, engage in a deliberate doping routine to try and cheat his way to victory -- which is exactly what Pudzianowski did in 2004. That statement should be stripped from the section along with all other unsubstantiated p.r.

--Counterpoint to previous-- IFSA does not test for steroids or performance enhancing substances. They do test for recreational drugs such as various forms of speed, and this was most likely the positive test. The IFSA does not want athletes dying in competition from heart attacks or other catastrophic problems caused by being under such heavy loads combined with the influence of speed. Such an event would probably torpedo the sport. One might notice that in their official press releases the IFSA never specified what drug caused the positive test, nor did they imply that it was a performance-enhancing substance. Therefore I doubt 'cheating' was the cause of the suspension.

I removed the POV label; I think we've cleaned up the unnecessary PR. Dsreyn 13:39, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

In response to the doping part, mariusz confirmed in an interview (can't rember where so i won't add it to the page) that it was Cocain that he tested positive for. ArcherCC 21:16 Jan 12, 2011. (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.43.188.78 (talk)

Possible plagiarism edit

Two paragraphs of the biography appear to have been copied directly from http://pudzian.lid.com.pl/pudzian/?a=pudzian (looks like an official Mariusz site, though not the same one listed in the article), with a couple of changes to correct obvious typos. Seems like this violates Wikipedia policy.

Interestingly, his best bench press and squat as given on that page are significantly lower than the ones claimed in the Wikipedia article. Seems like a reference for the Wikipedia numbers might be a good idea, as these lifts seem pretty incredible even for Mariusz. Dsreyn 02:40, 23 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Date of birth edit

As someone had previously mentioned here (recently removed by some anon), the Polish Wikipedia gives has year of birth as 1977. Dsreyn

DOB is not mentioned on his official website. It is mentioned, however, that he began competing at 16 and that he entered his first competition in December 1990. That would put his birth year as 1974. Additionally, the one-year ban after his 3rd place finish in 2004 was negotiable, depending on rehabilitation. Since he is on the circuit in 2005, the assumption would be that he sought rehab rather than sit out for a year.

There is a brief bio page for Mariusz on the Arnold Classic strongman contest site at http://www.arnoldsstrongestman.com/Mariusz%20Pudzianowski.htm which says that Mariusz is 27. That page looks like it was made for the 2004 contest (it has 2003 results, and he didn't compete in the 2005 contest), so the age given there is consistent with 1977 as his year of birth. This seems like a somewhat authoratative source, though it still disagrees with the bit mentioned above (competing at age 16 in 1990). Dsreyn 13:39, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Measurements & Stats edit

According to his official site his measurements are biceps 56cm, nape 54cm, waist 92cm, thigh 80cm, weight 132 kg, height 186cm, chest 148cm, forearm 45cm and he can bench press 275kg, squat 360kg, deadlift 395kg. --unsigned comment added by 211.27.157.83 (talk) 06:21, 16 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

As as he does not officially compete in the three powerlifting lifts I consider his site to be the ultimate authority on what his "gym lifts" are and hence have included them accordingly. StrengthCoach 13:25, 18 December 2005 (UTC). Also, even if those were his numbers, the conversions are not correct. 400 KG is 880 pounds, not 981.Reply
The page says his bench press is 5,563KG, that's like 9100lbs. That's like 12 times the Guiness record. That can't be right.--Legomancer 19:45, 1 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
This page seems to be a favorite target of vandals lately. I put back the stats from his official site. Dsreyn

He looks a little older than 31or 32; don't ya think?

  • Editors keep changing his height and weight without citation, please leave it alone, unless a reliable citation is provided for the change. IP editor 211.27.157.83 provided stats above, indicating that they were from his official site. Wikipedia has a policy with regard to self-published material, namely "Self-published or questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves" so long as it meets certain requirements. The Polish site says waga: 142 kg, and wzrost: 186 cm, so that is 312 pounds and 6 ft. 1 inch; the weight does not match what 211.27.157.83 indicated above, but Pudzianowski may have gained weight since 2005. --Bejnar (talk) 07:57, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, now there is a citation saying that is weight is 117kg. That's quite frankly unbelievable, and it contradicts a number of other reliable sources. I've left both in for now (with a {{dubious}} tag), but unless someone explains here why there would be such a large discrepancy, I'm going to remove it as an error from the source in question. Polish remake of Conan - hoax edit

There is NO SUCH MOVIE! As a member of Polish fandom I'd surely knew that, but I haven't seen even anecdotal evidence. The pictures on pudzian.pl are only stylisations, and there is nothing about movie!. If you don't belive me: proove that I'm wrong by providing sources from IMDB or other source, per WP:V. Mariusz aspires for a career in acting after his strongman career and has already starred in re-make of 'Conan the Barbarian' in Poland: that's exact quote from Wikipedia, the hoax spreads... A.J. 10:20, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
How can you say for sure that the quote was taken from Wikipedia, and not the other way around? It seems to me that if someone finds more references to this movie on the net, you can just reply "see, they copied the hoax from Wikipedia". Dsreyn 17:40, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I can say for sure, because I live in Poland and I'm a great SF-F fan: I'd know about the movie if there were only gossips about plans... I haven't seen a single poster, no news in Polis media, NOTHING. "Born To Be Big" is not a reliable source in this matter. I cannot say who made the hoax first: Wikipedia or Born2BBig, but that's a hoax for sure. A.J. 09:31, 12 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
The Polish version of Mariusz Pudzianowski's article has two movies listed. If anyone knows Polish and can translate the films' titles, I think they will reveal that there indeed was a Polish Conaan movie.--Screwball23 talk 02:54, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Wild Man and Wrong Number. They doesn't seem to have anything to do with Conan. Jogers (talk) 20:18, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Prison edit

Mariusz served an 18 month sentence for battery & robbery in 2000/2001. He talked about it on numerous occasions on Polish TV. He pleaded guilty to battery and not guilty to robbery. Pudzianowski explains that an argument occurred between him and another individual and this led to a fight. As battery is not a crime in Poland unless the victim stays a minimum 7 days in a hospital, and is only punished on a civil filing the victim confessed that a golden neck chain was stolen in the event, so the crime could be pursued from the Polish criminal law. [2] here, with the daughter of the Polish president Kwasniewski, Pudzianowski admits that he indeed did time —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.199.198.237 (talk) 14:51, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

It is written that Mariusz Pudzianowski was a proffesional boxer for 7 years before competing in Strongman however the Boxing Records database has no information on Mariusz Pudzianowski indicating that he has never boxed as a proffesional! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.2.178.153 (talk) 13:15, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

when Zydrunas Savickas came back to WSM edit

pudzianowski just retreated cause twice was beaten By Zydrunas who is 2 years even older :))))...everyone but poles knows that Zydrunas Savickas always was much stronger than pudzianowski...Zydrunas even after serious injury 3 years in a row was 2nd in WSM after pudzianowski, but when he healed he became the strongest man ever lived on Earth for the last 8 years... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.219.188.77 (talk) 07:31, 30 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Most decorated strongman athlete of all time? edit

I know he is considered one of the best, but is he the most decorated in terms of championships? Of course the winner of the most World's Strongest Man titles, so that in itself would make him the most decorated WSM competitor. If anyone can prove this to be right and true, could it get a mention in the article? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.148.205.89 (talk) 03:00, 20 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Amman United? edit

Can anyone confirm whether or not the big man has indeed signed to play rugby for the amatuer Welsh club, or are they and Shane Williams playing a giant prank on everyone?--Allthestrongbowintheworld (talk) 11:44, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Personal records edit warring edit

Since it's apparently not clear, let me point out that both sources of personal records (1 and 2) are from his official website. If there's an error, it needs to be corrected on the website. Wikipedia only reports what reliable sources say. EvergreenFir (talk) 18:29, 23 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Personal Records of Mariusz edit

I noticed that in Personal Records of Mariusz Pudzianowski is a mistake, or a unreal information i think more believeble is the wall of Pudzianowskis website http://www.pudzian.pl/mariusz.php , than a post done by someone else he noticed also in manny interviews hes personal powerlifting records http://www.pudzianowski.dzs.pl/biografia/mariusz-pudzianowski/ http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=4919853 http://portalaktywni.pl/aktualnosci/zawodnicy-mma-mariusz-pudzianowski/ http://gwizdek24.se.pl/inne/pudzian-jeszcze-nie-koncz_71974.html http://sdspietrzykow.republika.pl/mariusz-pudzianowski.shtml AND HERE YOU CAN SEE AN INTERVIEW WITH MARIUSZ saying that he could deadlift 415 kg(Not 430) (http://www.sportfan.pl/artykul/mma-koniec-kariery-pudziana-jezeli-przegra-to-zobacz-20274 don`t know how manny ather facts to set here but this current info at `Personal Record` needs to be corrected,Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.19.228.6 (talk) 11:17, 9 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Finally some other sources, but some are clearly copied from Wikipedia as they have the reference numbers in them. Going to ask for outside input. EvergreenFir (talk) 02:02, 12 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
For anyone coming from 3O, note the recent disagreement has been between myself and a socking IP editor. Page was previously protected for vandalism by this user. Up until this point the editor has failed to provide any sources for their edits. EvergreenFir (talk) 02:07, 12 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
I really can`t understan why are you making this so complicated, maybe you are a big mariusz fan and you want for him biger deadlift and squat? i really don`t know:s but this is the true info i set, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.19.228.6 (talk) 15:52, 13 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
As I said on my talk page, the issue is the source. The official webpage gives conflicting info. EvergreenFir (talk) 05:21, 14 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
We must trust the WALL the base of the website, not a new post by someone and do you see the date of that post on mariusz website its on 2007 in 2007 he was 132 kg heavy and the website pudzian.pl is created in 2011, i don`t know maybe is posted by someone is just a news post more trustable is the WALL of his website, i swear im nothing else doing only trying to correct the info here, thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.19.228.6 (talk) 11:58, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

WP:3O isn't generating any comments, so let's see if I can solicit some. I'm about to give up as I really don't care much about this topic, but this is my last effort for resolution. User:Flyer22, User:Daniel Case, and User:Roscelese, do you have anything to add?
