Kevin Rudd edit

I thought that Kevin Rudd went to high school with Wayne Swan (Nambour High?) I've not heard that he went to Ashgrove, certainly not while I was there. Slac speak up! 02:19, 5 July 2006 (UTC

Ashgrovians? edit

Hey, just wondering who have been the main editors of this article? I'm a current Ashgrove student; any other Wikipedians who are Ashgrovians out there? Yarub 05:35, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm a 2000 Old Boy. Slac speak up! 23:36, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
In that case I highly doubt that Kevin Rudd would have been at Ashgrove in your time! Yarub 08:51, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I meant that while at Ashgrove I never heard him described as an old boy. Slac speak up! 09:36, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Same, I've never heard it either...maybe he's someone were not proud of? Yarub 13:04, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
In Alumni, Des O'Connor should be Des Connor. He played Rugby for both Australia and New Zealand, and now has the sporting field, previously known at "The Flats" named after him. DC
I Attended Marist from '98 to '03. In 03, the Cyprian was the venue for a "great debate" by the Labor Party. In providing a venue, the school was permitted to send 10 people - of which the 2003 Senior A Debating Team, School Captain, and two teachers attended. The debate featured State Labor MPs (Matt Foley and Wendy Edmond attended, both retired former ministers now), as well as Federal MP's Kevin Rudd and Arch Bevis. It was at that debate that Kevin Rudd mentioned that he had indeed attended Marist for two years, as a boarder. Off the top of my head, I believe he said it was in year 9 and 10 - he didn't graduate from there. He was quite able to quote the school motto 'Viriliter Age', pronouncing it in what he called Old Latin, (Viriliter ah-gay), and made jokes about borders very similar to the ones that still float around the school today. If you wanted to check the authenticity, best to get in touch with Michael Callanan to ask him about it - he may be able to help - or if you can find Jim Buckley around - he was there as well. (Jim Buckley is a semi-retired former Marist Teacher who used to co-ordinate debating and was the person in charge of selecting people to attend the dinner. He is occasionally around the college). Hope that helps. - Hammerskojld
