Silver Fox killed Mariko

edit

It was Silver Fox, the HYDRA Overlord, who ordered Matsu'o (at gunpoint, no less) to send in Reiko and poison Mariko. Silver Fox was motivated purely by her hatred for Logan and sought only to rob him of his love. She personally requested Reiko to be the assassin, in order to further humiliate both Reiko's and Logan's sense of honor toward one another, as Reiko was unaware at the time that Mariko and Logan were betrothed, and promptly killed herself after completing her task. (As are the events of Wolverine #57 in July, 1992) Silver Fox could've cared less for Mariko, or any of the doings of Clan Yashida. Mariko died only because Logan loved her. 74.244.63.126 00:04, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Merger

edit

Merge These articles should be merged because they are only different version of the same character, Mariko Yashida. -- 69.182.78.104 05:39, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oppose These are distinctivly different character, both of whom have been firmly established in separate publications. 66.109.248.114 19:38, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oppose Sure, they are technically alternate versions but the Sunfire one has so much other things happen to her, she has developed a far, far different personality. It would be like one of Multiple Man's clones spending twenty years in a monastery. Lots42 06:30, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please see discussion regarding(Merging Alternate Versions of Characters)

After 2 months of no addition discussion and no consensus reached I move that discussion close.66.109.248.114 18:41, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Another merge

edit

The two articles violate WP:WAF guidelines. It also goes against Project guidelines and could qualify as WP:Fancruft. Because of the guideline viloations this may also qualify as a consensus exception WP:CONEXCEPT. So concensus or not, closed discussion or not, these two articles should be merged based on guidelines. -Freak104 02:25, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Keep I see 69.183.15.244 has renominated this over at the Comics Project - this seems a bit premature but just some thoughts. A merge isn't going to help fix WP:FICT (unless there is some specific part being referred to) and the character is a very distinct one especially as it seems to not just an alternate version Mariko Yashida but an amalgam of her and her cousins Sunfire and Sunpyre (hence the name). Alternative version of Superman (and others) tend to still have his powers and a variation on his origin story and friends/enemies but Sunfire, for all intents and purposes, is a different person - not just through the powers but other aspects (e.g. being a lesbian the entire Wolverine angle is out). Notability issues will have to be dealt with whether or not these are merged so the key question is: If that entry started out a section here would it have been split off? Given all the differences (and the size) I can see a good arguement for it so I'm going for keep. (Emperor 13:40, 12 September 2007 (UTC))Reply
    • Comment I've started the process of expanding Sunfire (Exiles) and feel it should have no problem meeting WP:FICT. I also feel that the character is sufficiently distinct (in powers and personality) that they can be considered as being a different character and qualify as an exception to the Comic Project guidelines on alternate characters. (Emperor 14:32, 12 September 2007 (UTC))Reply
    • Comment I'm not so sure they should be considered different people though. Its not like her powers were completely new to her, they were the same as her cousin in the main universe. I just see it as Mariko getting the powers in her family rather than or in addition to her cousins. Also I don't think her orientation is enough to be considered a seperate person as there have been numerous alternate universe characters whose orientation has been changed, most obvious in this instance is Mary Jane Watson. I think a good example of what should be considered a different person is Heather Hudson, whose creation was inspired by the original but clearly unrelated to the original in terms of powers, maiden name, race, and codename. -- 69.183.15.244 06:41, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Merge - Considering that both characters are deceased with very little chance of returning I think it would be suitable to merge the pages. I don't forsee any signifigant growth of either page happening and both are short enough to fit comfortably on one page. Also, the reason I mentioned this article on the Changeling discussion was because they were the only two Exiles members with seperate pages from their main characters and now that Changeling has merged, this is the only one. I'd also like to point out that the Sunfire (Exiles) page name is a very nonstandard name and is the only article where that format appears. When searching for the page, Mariko Yashida was the first thing that came to mind that I should search for. By searching Sunfire you need to go through 3 pages just to get to the Sunfire (Exiles) page.
Emperor, I think you bring up a good point with the "If the entry was started here" scenario but I disagree that the page would be split. I realize these pages were created before the guidelines were set but I think keeping them seperate, especially a supporting charcacter like Mariko, only discourages others from following the guidelines and adds fuel to the sometimes heated merge debates. I'm not saying its necessary but I'll throw it out there just like I did in the Changeling article, the Wikipedia:Resolving disputes process may be beneficial in this case -- 12.76.152.87 07:25, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Merge - Too many commonalities to keep separate. Furthermore both characters are deceased and not seeing any further development. Combining both pages shouldn't result in an over-length page. --El benito 02:40, 21 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Discussion closed. Result was: MERGE -- 69.182.73.240 07:49, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
