General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation

Image eligibility:

  • Freely licensed: No - Not clear. Commons page states "before 1934. Lets guess at 1915", which is probable but not sure it's enough for a DYK image.
  • Used in article: No - Picture is not used within the article. Consider using a crop of the cited image instead of the painting?
  • Clear at 100px: Unknown
QPQ: Done.

Thanks for the review @Zeromonk:. The vague date of the picture doesn't matter as long as it was before 1934 (70 years and all that). Which it was. I don't like the "maybe 1915" guessing but the loader I use insists on a precise date which means that lots of dates have to be guessed. (I suspect this was not the intention of the person who wrote the loading program - but this is a real (and vague) world.). However this matters not one jot or titter as the painting is not of the balloonist but another Marie Surcouf (which is why M-Squirrel removed it from the article). I have decided to replace the article with another where she is not playing "the lady" but she is a woman ballooning. I took your idea and just picked out a portrait of her which I think shows that she is not sipping tea, but having an adventure. Victuallers (talk) 12:34, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the update @Victuallers:, this now looks good to publish to me - replacement image is used in article, good enough quality, etc. (and on a personal, non-DYK-requirements-note, I love the ballooning image!). Zeromonk (talk) 14:43, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi, thanks for nominating the page! Just to let you know that the picture in the article has the women named back to front, so Marie Sourcouf is actually the lady on the right of that photo (not smiling), not the one in the current crop. MumphingSquirrel (talk) 18:58, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
In light of MumphingSquirrel's message, @Victuallers: can you take a look at the crop again please? Zeromonk (talk) 10:53, 19 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
checkY Oh pity I liked the first pic more - now fixed. Victuallers (talk) 09:45, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
