Move

edit

As she is a deceased consort, she should be at her maiden name Maria Leopoldina of Austria. Any thoughts?Prsgoddess187 18:12, 26 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

-Just a note I corrected a typo. "nighly" instead of "highly."

Consort

edit

Changed the likes of Queen consort of Portugal to Queen consort of Pedro IV of Portugal, etc. A queen or empress consort is the consort of a person, not a country. --Picapica 08:08, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Consort

edit

I believe that when one is designated "The Queen", the person is obviously related to a kingdom of a country, or as it´s reigning monarch, or as it´s reining monarch consort.

If the person is designated "The Queen consort", it is established that she is not the reigning monarch , but the monarch´s spouse.

When designated Queen consort, the person is designated the Queen , but, consort Queen, of a country. Only a kingdom has queens. A King has a wife or consort, not the country. Therefore, the expression "Queen consort of Portugal , means "spouse of the King of Portugal, not Spouse of Portugal. I believe that this has been the correct way to refer to a country´s reigning monarch´s wife. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.14.87.162 (talk) 19:54, 29 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Juanaria

edit

Maria Leopoldina's second daughter had the name "Juanaria". It could be possible, that she was named after her paternal grandmother Charlotta Johanna (Juana in Spain and Portugal).

Well, its a little late to answer that, but "Januária" was named in honor of "Rio de Janeiro" city and "Paula" in honor of "São Paulo" city. --Lecen (talk) 02:10, 14 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Juanaria is the correct form. The princess was named after her paternal grandmother (see belove). --AndreaMimi (talk) 14:45, 24 August 2012(UTC)

Januária, not Juanaria. --Lecen (talk) 12:57, 24 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Cause of death

edit

The likelyhood that her death was caused by her husband, who presumably kicked the pregnant empress in her belly, is mentioned in the Portuguese, German and Dutch articles about the empress. Lignomontanus (talk) 22:15, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

This episode, which was not more than an argument between Leopoldina and Pedro I occured in the middle of 1826. She died on December 1826. "D. Leopoldina miscarried, contracted puerperal fever and died on December 11, 1826." Source: Barman, Roderick J. Barman. Citizen Emperor: Pedro II and the Making of Brazil, 1825-1891. etc... p.17 --Lecen (talk) 22:47, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
