Alexander Stewart may not have been an uncommon name at that time. The one linked to here was a bishop, most unlikely that they were married. The source describes him as Duke of Albany, which he wasn't. PatGallacher (talk) 19:30, 8 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

The "The genealogy of the most noble and ancient house of Drummond" cited in this article says that Margaret "was married the fecond time to Alexander Duke of Albany, elder brother to John Duke of Albanie, regent and governour to King James the Fifth". And the "Bishops of Scotland" that is cited as the first reference on the Alexander Stewart (bishop of Moray) article says "ALEXANDER (II.) STEWART, de Pitcarne (illegitimate) son of Alexander, duke of Albany, by Catherine Sinclair".

So I think they are the same guy. Legitimate when he got married, and then he became illegitimate, the marriage ended and he joined the church. Am I missing something? AlistairMcMillan (talk) 23:59, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Also "Bishops of Scotland" describes the Bishop as "consanguineus" with James V. As the Alex Duke of Albany Snr's illegitimate son would be. AlistairMcMillan (talk) 00:03, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

There are a number of reasons for questioning this account and this source:

1. I don't think any marriage would have been automatically anulled when he was declared illegitimate, you didn't get out of a marriage that easily in those days, this is speculation.

2. The source describes him as Duke of Albany, which he wasn't.

3. A small point, but the source misspells her surname as Stuart.

So I don't think we can treat this as a reliable source, the issue could merit further investigation. PatGallacher (talk) 02:09, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Restored with another source that explicitly says "...daughter of Alexander Stewart, Bishop of Moray (son of Alexander Duke of Albany), and Lady Margaret Stewart, formerly Lady Gordon, his spouse." and "Lady Gordon was Lady Margaret Stewart, the daughter of King James the Fourth by his Margaret Drummond..."
