Notability?
editWhy is this notable? FunkMonk (talk) 21:57, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
- Because he is a high-rank Syrian military official and part of inner circle of Assad family (as evidenced by at least two refs with photos) who recently fled to Turkey. There are many other biographies in WP that are not as much as significant. So I think the article should not be deleted. Thanks, Egeymi (talk) 22:20, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
- Many high ranking officials have defected, none have articles. This guy is not notable for anything other than having defected, and by being a former friend of Bashar Assad. FunkMonk (talk) 22:22, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I wish the others had also an article. Since all are significant. Egeymi (talk) 22:24, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
- Your point is further negated by SKY news in that the case is the first such case by a high-ranking military commander.[1] So the srticle should not be deleted.Egeymi (talk) 23:15, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
- Other defections have been reported too. That's not an argument for having a whole article about a guy who never did anything notable other than that. FunkMonk (talk) 23:27, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
- His father, Mustafa Tlass, was Syrian Minister of Defense for 32 years and still plays an active role in the Assad regime; his nephew, Abdul Razzaq Tlass, is a commander in the Free Syrian army; there's two notable relations in addition to Assad, the fallout of his defection will certainly affect all three. Add to that he's a sunni-muslim which plays into the growing sectarian narrative to the Syrian conflict. I also believe that, taking into account his military expertise as a general and knowledge of the inner workings of the Assad regime as a member of Assad's inner circle, Tlass will only add to his notability in the coming weeks and months as this conflict progresses. 99.251.189.224 (talk) 08:54, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- BBC has developed a profile for him. So WP can also include an article for him, I think. (For his BBC profile, please see refs).Egeymi (talk) 12:09, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- Since the guy is making news, I think an article about him is relevant at this point. I do not know about it's encyclopedic value, but I was certainly searching to learn about his Bio and ended up here. Will this article be valuable after one year? I really do not know! 18.54.7.1 (talk) 15:07, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- Being notable does not require being all the time significant. And who knows? Maybe he will always be remembered as the first person who leads to dissolution of the regime.Egeymi (talk) 16:52, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
