This article should be more neutral and note sound like a hate article against mamak stalls. Negative allegations should be properly cited even though some claims might be true.Wai Hong 09:17, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree, especially the "Negative aspects of mamak eateries", very obvious 'negative' there. L joo 15:24, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Minor errors edit

Partially corrected some obvious grammatical errors although on the holistic appearance it does still seem rather confusing and misleading. Dat789 13:39, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Derogatory? edit

is the term "mamak" apt? although it is part of regular malaysian dialogue, indian muslims seem to take offense with the term? i wouldn't know how to fix it too, because nobody would say "i'm going to an indian-muslim stall/eatery" should it be emphasized that "mamak" is a colloquial, and sometimes negative, term? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.32.35.201 (talk) 23:06, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Mamak is only appropriate for Tamil Muslims, so other Indian Muslim groups may feel offended if referred as mamak. Even Tamil Muslims sometimes don't like to called as mamak, because they don't call their people mamak (it's an exonym), or maybe they're too young to be an uncle, or they're not your uncle. Another reason is probably mamak usually refers to food operators, and in the past they don't have a good reputation with regard to hygiene (in general, food hygiene in India is poor). Mamak restaurants have improved a lot, but sometimes the stigma/bias sticks around, especially if the word is used in an insulting way. 210.19.13.194 (talk) 05:38, 22 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Seconded. please keep it fact based and most of all NEUTRAL! Parts of the introduction (meltingpot of......) sounded like it was copied from some brochure. And the part about Indian muslims thinking they're superior than malays definitely has no place here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.41.22.118 (talk) 09:03, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
