All scientific names of organisms should be in italics and with the first letter of the species name in lower case (first letter of genus name in upper).

Public Health Policy

This article has very little information about malaria prevention techniques and policies by way of mosquito control, health programs, etc. as implemented by public health organizations. Since in the past, programs have been disastrous to the environment, (draining of wetlands and use of DDT for instance) I am interested in finding out the best ways of preventing malaria that are the least harmful. Should this article have a stronger focus on ways that are more commonly used today, and on what works or doesn't work? Killing mosquitoes with insecticide

I can't believe that a topic as important as this has no mention of the use of insecticides to kill mosquitoes. They are the main carrier of the disease in most areas. Several countries wiped out malaria (or reduced it to under 1% of what it had been before), using DDT. Are we prejudiced against DDT, or what? --Uncle Ed (talk) 13:58, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

I think it is not mentioned because killing mosquitoes is a way of eradicating the parasite but not necessarily the disease. Nobody with the disease receives treatment through swatting a mosquito. The use of DDT caused a decrease in the number of malaria deaths, but it is not an effective way of eradicating malaria because it kills so many other things and ultimately poses a threat to human health as well.--Mevagiss (talk) 13:18, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

Prophylaxis Side Effects

I find very interesting that there is nothing dedicated to health side effects of Malaria prophylaxis. There are extreme health cases related to some prophylaxis mentioned, "black box" warnings by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, and government agencies who have ceased to distribute due to adverse side effects.
