General Presentation of Majid Al Futtaim edit

Extended content

This is what I suggest as a general presentation describing Majid Al Futtaim Holding. Can someone help improve this content in a way that it follows the Wikipedia rules, and then include it in the article? Regards, -- Themoroccaneditor (talk) 12:07, 27 January 2014 (UTC)•Reply

  • Majid Al Futtaim (Arabic: ماجد الفطيم) is a holding company that owns and manages shopping mall, retail, and leisure establishments in the Middle East and North Africa, with operations in 12 countries and over 24,500 employees made up of over 70 nationalities. The Group was established by Majid Al Futtaim[1] in 1992 with an objective of putting in place a supervisory tier for the operating companies that would assist with their development. The three major operating subsidaries include Majid Al Futtaim Properties, Majid Al Futtaim Retail, and Majid Al Futtaim Ventures.
(edit conflict)
Hi, I'm responding to your help request, which I see has been changed to an edit request.
  • Where is the figure "24,500 employees" sourced? Where are the 70 nationalities sourced?
  • This sentence is confusing to me: "The Group was established by Majid Al Futtaim with an objective of putting in place a supervisory tier for the operating companies that would assist with their development." Are we trying to say that Majid Al Futtaim was established to manage its subsidiaries? Are the subsidiaries the companies that build shopping malls, or does Majid Al Futtaim build them? Both?
  • What are "large consumer focused enterprises"? Does that mean "shopping malls"? Can we simplify this to "retail properties" or "commercial properties", or something similar? It's coming off as marketing-speak to me.
  • I'm not really left with a strong, clear impression yet of what the company does. Putting the pieces together, it seems Majid Al Futtaim Group is a conglomerate that oversees companies specializing in commercial retail properties. Is that the gist?
  • You may want to take a gander at ThyssenKrupp, because I think it might be an article similar enough to this subject that it might serve as a useful guide. Note, for example, that all the data is sourced.
Hopefully that helps somewhat. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:21, 27 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Dear Cyphoidbomb (talk, Thank you very much for your response. Following are answers for your questions - I hope this will facilitate understanding, developing, and editing the content of the article:
  • The figure "24,500" employees from 70 nationalities" is sourced from the following articles/links: [19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27]
  • The sentence "The Group was established by Majid Al Futtaim with an objective of putting in place a supervisory tier for the operating companies that would assist with their development." basically means that Majid Al Futtaim Group was established to supervise the three sister companies (subsidiaries) that operates in different fields. Below is a detailed structure for everyone to get a broad idea about the group and its different high-level components. In fact, to answer your second question, Majid Al Futtaim doesn't only owns, operates, and manages shopping malls. These are only a sub-business unit under Majid Al Futtaim Properties. I can definitely give more details about each company and the sub-business units under them with brand names and all other details. References can certainly be provided in order to help improve this article and build it in a proper way.
Looking forward to hearing back from all interested contributers.
Thank you very much.

Asking for HELP edit

  Helped

Whenever I make any updated to this page, everything gets removed. I have been citing all the information with relevant references. What's wrong with what I've been contributing with?

1) as someone with a conflict of interest you should not be editing the article content directly anyway. 2) Just because there is a source, does not mean it is appropriate for an encyclopedia article 3) your additions have not been encyclopedic and have been overly promotional.
in the future, please use this talk page to suggest specific changes and let other non-involved editors determine if the content is appropriate or not. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:09, 27 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Dear TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom, Thanks for your response. Nevertheless, I don't understand how you can judge the content I've added as "not appropriate" for an encyclopedia article. In fact, all the text was checked by professional copywriters from the field. At the same time, I don't see how informational content with clear facts can be promotional? In fact, how is my content different from other companies' articles (e.g. Apple, Google, GE, LG, Microsoft...)? Last but not least, how is inserting the official logo of the company not appropriate? (No one can get the original logo unless I do anyway) - Thank you very much for your understanding. Looking forward to hearing your feedback -- Themoroccaneditor (talk) 12:07, 27 January 2014 (UTC)•Reply

And then it was undone, as the reference doesn't support the content being added. There's no mention of most of those nations in the article. Where's Lebanon, Armenia, Pakistan, Iraq? As far as I can tell, the only content being supported is that the company began 20 years ago. If I'm wrong, lemme know. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:34, 13 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

My personal opinion is that the market timeline should never be added- it serves no purpose other than to look good for promotion. I've added the countries though, in a less promotional way. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:41, 14 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Jbenoite: Don't add it just after I said that it served no purpose- for it to be added, it would need a consensus of people, and I think it serves no purpose other than to promote, just like most of the article already. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:49, 14 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Joseph2302: your opinion is much appreciated, we are just trying to develop the article based on a contributor's suggestion, and as you can see I supported that with relevant references, and that was initially the issue that Cyphoidbomb had pointed out. Now if you think this is a promotional content, that's another thing, and you might be right actually, depending on Tbenazoun's request's intention, especially that he had previously declared a personal or professional connection to the subject of this article.
@Joseph2302:Though, what you have added as an alternative for the tables is actually wrong since most of the references I have added show that the group is operating in 13 countries not its subsidiary "Majid Al Futtaim properties". Tbenazoun has mentioned that is his talk page. Cheers.

"Too promotionnal" issues edit

Since the beginning of my intervention on this page (but also before if I am right), several sections have been taken off because they were "too promotional". However, based on my own contributions: there wasn't any content of such dimension but only informative content: facts and only facts. You should stop deleting content for such reason when it is not the case, or at least justify your changes more specifically. Also, information is directly extracted from regional media sources but also from the US (e.g CNN, Bloomberg)
