Talk:Maiko (disambiguation)

Separate article Maiko (apprentice) edit

I think there should be a separate page for maiko. Including them with geisha is like including pikachu and raichu in the same page.

I totally agree with you ! Please mention this idea on Talk:Geisha too, and create Maiko (apprentice) by copy-pasting the relevant part from the Geisha article. Then in the Maiko part of the Geisha article, put a paragraph saying "{{main|Maiko (apprentice)}}". Thanks ! :-) Nicolas1981 (talk) 02:49, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Agreed! Certainly helpful in breaking up the large main article, and ensuring that this article remains a disambig-only.
I’ve made a page Maiko (geiko), linked it from the top, and moved geiko-specific information to that page.

– the apprentice geisha is WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. I've just finished disambiguating incoming links to this dab. Of the 29 I fixed, 26 referred to the Maiko (geiko) meaning, two referred to the actress, and one referred to a gunboat which doesn't appear to be notable enough to merit an article. Based on this, and how prevalent the geiko meaning is, I'd say that it is the primary topic. It should be moved here to Maiko, and this dab should be moved to Maiko (disambiguation). An Other uses hatnote would then be placed on this article, pointing to the dab. Nick Number (talk) 18:48, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment this is an improperly formatted multimove request. 70.49.127.65 (talk) 23:10, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
    • Comment someone has fixed the nomination into a multimove. 70.49.127.65 (talk) 04:49, 29 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. None of the other meanings on the list can be considered plausible primary topics. I must say that it is quite misleading to have a DAB with a picture and Japanese characters. Kauffner (talk) 08:15, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Support: Don't know about the format or propriety thereof, but the term maiko, as an apprentice geisha/geiko, seems to be the term of notability. The content currently at Maiko should be placed under the heading Maiko (disambiguation). A hatnote, or other notice, directing the reader to the disambiguation page should be placed at the top of the Maiko page. • Support. The apprentice geisha does appear to be the primary topic. The other items at the dab appear to be mostly partial title matches and are unlikely to be any competition for the geisha as the primary topic. I would also be happy seeing the current dab split into Maiko (disambiguation) and Maiko (name), per MOS:DABNAME. There is quite a bit of information which is currently not appropriate for a disambiguation page (as Kauffner points out) but would be quite at home as an anthroponymy article.
