Was it so in Sweden? In Poland the magnate was not a title but rather a position. [[User:Halibutt|Halibutt]] 13:24, Nov 22, 2004 (UTC)

The word Mogul redirects here but is not mentioned at all edit

And it has it's own unique history as it is derived from the word Mongol in reference to the Mughal emperors who descended from the Mongol emperor Gengis Khan. BillyTFried (talk) 19:18, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

More citations needed; especially for England edit

Hi, y'all!! This article contains too few references for the importance of this topic:

  • especially for England, as magnates (e.g., Percies, Nevilles, the cadet branches of the Plantagenet dynasty (York & Lancaster) & the Lord Warden of the Marches#For England) were reponsible for much of the trouble in Northern England during the Middle Ages (e.g. Anglo-Scottish Wars, Wars of the Roses). The single reference for England is unverifable, as it links to a Google book page with no preview.
  • There is a lone sentence to a Gaelic magnate within the England section which is missing a citation. If this refers to Ireland or Scotland, it should placed in the appropriate section.
  • There should be a new section to cover the Scottish magnates (e.g., Douglases, Argylls, & the Lord Warden of the Marches#For Scotland).
  • I can't comment on magnates in Ireland; the Douglases were involved in the Plantation of Ulster & probably there were some in The Pale under the Anglo-Normans & the other Plantations of Ireland.
  • According to the description given in the lead, the Bishop of Durham and his County Palatine should also be included.

We must remove non Western Christian countries edit

In the case of England, Sweden and Hungary the magnate Latin word was used exactly due to the official status of Latin language in that countries in the past. And also the magnate word was adopted to their native languages later. Otherwise, we can list all countries and all languages of planet Earth, because all countries had some society and top elite class which ruled that nations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Csataelőkészítő (talkcontribs) 12:52, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
