Need for this as a separate article edit
It needs a lot of work, but after looking at the magma article, I think that this article is needed. It should cover the different types of setting in which igneous rocks are formed - e.g. Alkaline magmatism in rifts and Calk-alkaline magmatism at subduction zones, looking at the process rather than just the product. - Well I've reworded this some, but I've found getting references extremely difficult as almost all sources refer to specific types such as "basaltic magmatism" or "rift-related magmatism" rather than discussing magmatism in general. Mikenorton (talk) 10:36, 10 July 2016 (UTC)
- Finally found a reference that looks at magmatism as a whole - now added to article. Following that book, we should probably have separate sections on magmatism in the four main tectonics settings - destructive plate margins (arc magmatism), constructive plate margins (seafloor spreading), oceanic intraplate (hotspots/seamounts) and continental intraplate (rift magmatism).
