dh to dotted d edit

the dh in Mael Mórdha is an anglicized, or latinized form of a celtic letter, the lenited d. and the band's logo reflects this. does anybody know how to type in a celtic lenited d so that the page can be moved? for more info see, Irish orthography ...Patrick (talk, contributions) 21:29, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

that character can't be entered in on wikipedia, i'm guessing. look at the new album cover, [[1]] the spelling used is Mael Mórdha Celtus 05:31, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

A decision has been taken by the band to include the 'h' in Mordha in the Modern Irish form to avoid the confusion generatedby the dotted d character. Hence its appearance in the new logo as seen on the cover of GMM. Dave Mael Mordha

well, since it was used at one point, it seems apropriate to keep it on the page, but to also explain that it is no longer used. ...Patrick (talk, cntrb.) 15:51, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yep, cool, just wanted to explain why the logo has changed! Dave Mael Mordha

Pronunciation edit

"Mael Mórdha (pronounced MAIL MOOR-AH) ..."

Is this pronunciation correct? I thought Mórdha was pronounced like "MORE-HAH", but their vocalist pronounces it something like "MORE-GAH". It may be a matter of dialect, but either way "MOOR-AH" doesn't seem right to me. Can anyone confirm this? ~Inkington 14:14, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

i can't confirm or deny either way, but tenitively, until someone with a knowledge in what i'm asuming would be old(er) irish and soem knowledge of IPA tackles it, the article should stay with the band's pronounciation. ...Patrick (talk, cntrb.) 22:21, 8 July 2007

Maybe it's the English dialect that is confusing here as well as the Irish. Let me firstly say that Mael Mórdha's cretin of a singer mis-pronounces the word. Nobody speaks Old Irish in Ireland (save some scholars). The band, in part, is trying to keep alive Irish traditions and culture and bring back that which was lost. The Irish Language has not been lost therefore the correct pronunciation is the modern Irish pronunciation. The word "Mórdha" is coming from the Irish word Mór (this is pronounced the same way as the English word "Moor" as in a miserable, wet boggy area, or those people who came from North Africa to Iberia in the 700's a.d. The "dh" in the word is silent). The Irish version of the name Moore is Uí Mórdha and is pronounced moor - ah ("a" as in the beginning of apple). Hope that helps. - Rob "The Cretin" Mael Mórdha

picture edit

i liked the picture i uploaded because it had all the members of the band in it. there's no point in just having a picture of one member, unless its somewhere in the article. i'm not making any changes until there's some consensus though....Patrick (talk, cntrb.) 01:01, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am curious as to why the band picture was removed. I remember this picture was from the band's website so I don't see why there would have been a problem with it ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Muiris Ó Suilleabháin (talkcontribs) 11:19, 27 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you look at the page history it says image MaelMórdhaband.jpg that has been speedily deleted per (CSD I7), which is "Invalid fair-use claim".--Celtus (talk) 06:11, 28 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry Lads but I am computer illiterate. Will someone explain what "Invalid fair-use" claim means and if it is of any help and ye want to use any picture from our website for the purpose of making this article nicer (although I am not so sure that out pictures are nice) then fire away. Also (just in the interest of accuracy) would someone be able to change the old band logo to the one we have been using for the last two years. Thanks for the interest and support for the band. Questions regarding Mael Mórdha edit

If any members of the public wish to improve on this article could they please contact the band first on maelmordha@gmail.com. We are not terribly well versed in the ethics of Wikipedia so this article may not be up to the standard of other articles. As a result, any help is much obliged. However, please read the articles in the talk page before deciding to change things if you don't want to send us a mail first as I get a bit browned off when I see things that I have changed, in the interest of accuracy, being changed again to something incorrect.
