Machata and Machate

edit

Through New Page Patrol saw that this page had been split into two. I have undone this thinking it a WP:CONTENTFORK. Please ping me in any response as I am not watching this page.. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 19:38, 18 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Barkeep49: To me it’s not a fork. “Machata” and “Machate” are different words each pointing to different topics. That currently the topics are similar (surnames) and even might share some of the etymology doesn’t say that this is always the case. For example if you look at the other language Wikipedia’s you’ll see that for example “Machata” is also the name of a hilly region near Tbilisi. The assumption that it might be a content fork is therefore based IMHO only on the current content of the English Wikipedia pages. Probably I should have removed the etymological information from Machata, since it helps to create this impression. Adding the topic above would make the etymological information invalid anyway. Given this I’d revert your changes if I don’t hear any contrary arguments. Thanks, --S.K. (talk) 03:47, 19 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@S.K.: I have no background in Czech so I cannot say if they are the same or different. You're correct that I was merely going by the content I could see here, as I tend to do when examining Engish Wikipedia pages :). If you say they're different words with different meanings and it doesn't help the user to have the list combined (rather than having a DAB page with only two entries, one of which is a redlink), I am not in a position of expertise to argue otherwise. @Barkeep49: Thank you for your feedback. I’ll then change back as mentioned. Thanks, --S.K. (talk) 11:26, 19 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
