This page was edited on May 10th under the supervision of the class "Critical Race Theory and Tap Dance," for wikieducation. As professor for this class, I can assure you that the references are valid and correct.
the charge that the edits are "poorly-written content, gravely unencyclopaedic in tone": Perhaps you can point to the places where this is the case, or help edit the "poorly written content." For instance, I have just been told that the opening may be "disorienting to the reader" and may need edits. But if this is the case, I do not think it should mean that entire parts of Mable Lee's life that were researched through the top secondary sources on tap dance history (Constance Vallis Hill and Brian Seibert's books) or primary sources (from African American newspapers) are to be deleted. Please work with me on editing any "unencyclopedic tones" or "poorly written content." or formatting errors.

Hi Midukee, it looks like you are doing another version of the class now in 2022 that we at Wiki Education supported back in 2020, but this time around you're doing it without Wiki Education's support? I strongly encourage you to work with us again if you plan to do this assignment in the future; we can help head off challenges like the ones you're having here. In order to get our support, please make sure to create a course page on dashboard.wikiedu.org before you teach with Wikipedia again in the future. --LiAnna (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:22, 24 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Midukee, the references may be OK but the content is not. I've already given an example of the kind of ill-written content that has no place in an encyclopaedia: "said to have gotten her passion for performing from seeing her parents be themselves around the house". That is not fixable by editing, it just needs to be removed.
Shouldn't one of your very first steps as an educator exploiting our project (right after the step mentioned above by LiAnna (Wiki Ed)) be to ensure that each of your students has a user account? Why is your student editing as a series of IPs? That's not helpful. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:10, 24 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
We did accounts with students in the spring of 2020. But we had to close down because of the pandemic and limited library access for international students. i tried to re-do the assignment this time around, but did not follow the wikieducation so closely, as the semester started once again with the Delta surge and I was mindful of the ways we might have students in isolation/have to close the college again. So, well noted, I could have and should have guided students through accounts and been more informed about all this before I encouraged them to upload. Trying to be flexible this semester, I guess, has now become a failing of my teaching. 137.146.206.218 (talk) 18:18, 31 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

and noted, User:Justlettersandnumbers, "said to have gotten her passion for performing" might indeed need to be removed or edited to be more encyclopedia like. And there could be other parts that need to be removed and/or edited. But I'm more concerned about the removal of content about Mable Lee's performances that is backed my primary sources that the student found in African American newspapers like the Amsterdam News. there seems to be a lot that was deleted out Midukee (talk) 18:37, 31 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
when I get a chance, I'll try working on the edits myself based on the student's research. And/or, I hope any other user might take the time to do this too. Because the research was sound and backed by primary source evidence. Midukee (talk) 18:38, 31 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Midukee, this page has, through the actions of your student(s), become something of a battlefield. You have to date made two edits in mainspace. May I suggest that you make a good number of small edits in less contentious areas and acquire a broader understanding of our policies and practices before attempting to edit this article? Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:16, 31 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
