Talk:Maîtresse-en-titre

I would like to respectfully request that this page be rewritten. It starts out listing true maîtresses-en-titre, but by the time it gets to Louis XIV, it mixes informal liaisons with formally designated royal mistresses, contradicting the information given at the beginning of the article. I agree entirely. And what the heck is Mary Boleyn doing here? This isn't about whether or not she slept with the King of France; she very well might have. This is about whether she held the title. I think we would have heard about that. Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:32, 26 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Not every royal mistress was official edit

Many of the royal mistresses listed in this article were "one-night stands" or even long-term liaisons, but were in no sense the king's court-acknowledged "official mistress", as the term maîtresse-en-titre implies. Since that title was never actually conferred on any woman, it must be inferred circumstantially. Women on the list should meet a set of criteria, including: 1.was she generally known at court as a mistress of the king? 2.was she regarded as the king's primary mistress? 3.did she receive titles, lands, revenues, legitimation of her bastards from the king which distinguished her from other royal mistresses? Did the king associate with her openly at court? Did she come to be accompanied at court by her own entourage of ladies, etc. FactStraight (talk) 21:03, 3 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Merge? edit

This article looks like a prime candidate for a merger with List of French royal mistresses. Boneyard90 (talk) 16:42, 4 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
