Copyright issues?

A lot of this seems to have been lifted verbatim from the RAF's website about the area; see for example http://www.raf.mod.uk/raflyneham/aboutus/history.cfm . I'm not sure exactly what the copyright status of the RAF webpages are, but it's probably with the MOD rather than being in the public domain. It was a reasonable article until all the copy material was dumped into http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=RAF_Lyneham&oldid=343559849 on 14th February. Were it my choice I'd revert to that content, which fits well with the other local airfields. What comes after hasn't the least pretense to encyclopedic brevity or relevance. I agree with you on this. Also the formatting in the history section is not great, the headings are in block capital letters. Someone should clean this up. Twistor96 (talk) 15:25, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Roman or Arabic Squadron numbers?

Does the RAF use Roman or Arabic numbers for Squadron identification? The following quote comes from the "Post-War" sub-section of the "History" section.

This gave a total of five tactical Hercules squadrons at Lyneham, as well as the VIP transport Comet squadron, and in 1976, the station became the largest operational base in the RAF with the arrival from Cyprus of Hercules-equipped No. LXX Squadron, bringing to seven the station's total of resident aircraft squadrons.

Not being totally familiar with RAF usage I have to ask for a viewpoint from a more knowledgeable editor.--TGC55 (talk) 21:10, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Article split?

I propose that this article be split into two pages, one covering the stations time as RAF Lyneham and one covering the current use as MOD Lyneham. Both aspects of the Lynehams history are notable and somewhat different from one another and I think deserve their own page. Other pages cover RAF stations which have been transferred to other defence uses have two pages e.g. RAF Kinloss and Kinloss Barracks, RAF Abingdon and Dalton Barracks and RAF Cottesmore and Kendrew Barracks. Agree. I noticed that RAF Leuchars should have a split as its current page is under the Army title too. Far too much history at Leuchars but I suspect that the new base info may be limited. Regards. The joy of all things (talk) 18:15, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

Proposed move

I note that the Ministry of Defence styles itself MOD not MoD (see Working for MOD). We already have MOD Chicksands and MOD St Athan. I propose moving MoD Bicester, MoD Corsham, MoD Donnington, MoD Feltham, MoD Kineton, MoD Lyneham, MoD Sealand and MoD Shoeburyness for consistency. Dormskirk (talk) 21:41, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
