Cleanup
editThere are too many opinions in this article, as well as disparaging comments made toward other musicians and their fans. Plus, the language is a little harsh and could be considered offensive needlessly. Only the facts should remain in the article, and the language should be cleaned up a bit. Should've signed it a long time ago, but I guess it's better late than never.
NPOV
editShe was the first female rapper commonly acknowledged to be as hard as the men: she loves to curse, and she's got that fierce working-class Brooklyn voice and no-nonsense demeanor. But she's also written some of the most fearlessly honest and introspective lyrics in modern music. - Personal opinions have no place at Wikipedia. MagentaThompson 18:18, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

- One of the things The Onion does is make news out of things that people do in everyday life, like leaving Wikipedia pages open in their browser for a few hours if they think they might want to read and/or refer to them soon. GreenReaper (talk) 01:43, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Musical Career
editThis line is purely opinion and, if not, needs to be backed up with sources: "In 1987, when she was 17, Lyte began publicly outshining other MCs"Bekthewreck (talk) 01:42, 2 March 2019 (UTC).
I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of MC Lyte's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
Reference named "BBD":
- From Earth, Wind & Fire: "Ramsey Lewis: Sun Goddess (Top Soul Albums)". Billboard.com.
- From Stop the Violence Movement: "The Stop The Violence Movement: Self Destruction (Hot Rap Singles)". Billboard.com.
I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 20:11, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
Proposed merge of Stop, Look, Listen (MC Lyte song) into MC Lyte
editWP:SONG indicates this song does not qualify for an article by itself. Merge to group is indicated. Whiteguru (talk) 06:01, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
