Shield

The shield in the infobox uses Series C, which causes the first '5' to clash with the edge of the diamond. The photo in the article uses Series B. Are there other shields which we don't have photos of that use series C, or should we redo the shield to use B? —Scott5114↗ [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 07:49, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

Based on [1], which is a photo of the assembly at the current northern terminus, it looks like MDOT is using B. (The one photo in the article is from the county back before MDOT used squares at all for M-553.) Anyway, I updated it. Imzadi 1979 → 10:38, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

Glass corner

I find it strange that a section of highway that is allegedly so dangerous and unsafe is only covered by a single news source. I would usually expect 3-4 local news pieces to cover such a thing, usually with a soundbite from some Swampy-a-like saying how terrible it is to put tarmac anywhere. Where are the sources? Glass' Corner is located in a rural area that only has the one newspaper (The Mining Journal) along with one major TV station news department (WLUC-TV). Two other TV stations have started to expand the journalistic outlets in the area, but only in the last few years or so, after the initial concern about the section of highway fell off the radar. Interesting. I'd have thought even most rural areas in the outback of Upper Michigan by Lake Superior that doesn't have much aside from trees and bears would have online news coverage for routine stuff by now. Ritchie333 ^{(talk) (cont)} 09:42, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

The Mining Journal does not put all of their print content online, so even if they ran additional articles on Glass' Corner in the last four years, there's no guarantee that it was ever online. As for WLUC, they delete content from the website without archiving it, and they use robots.txt to limit third-party archiving and such. Imzadi 1979 → 15:32, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

TFA for October?

Hi Imzadi1979 and other page watchers: I was thinking of nominating this article at TFA for October 1, the 25th anniversary of the highway's opening. However, I noticed that the "Future" section is a little outdated (it talks about a project that didn't happen) and there are a lot of paragraphs in each of the sections that perhaps can be split up. Are you interested in doing some article updates to get this ready for TFA? Z1720 (talk) 15:11, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

@Z1720: well, it wouldn't be the anniversary of the opening of the roadway. We don't have a specific date when it opened back in the 1930s. October 1, 1998, is the date the state assumed jurisdiction over the former County Road 553 and gave it the M-553 designation as a state trunkline highway.

As for the future section, those plans are still sitting waiting for specific funding, so it's not outdated. The paragraphs are just fine and do not need to be split up.

For various reasons, I would not be be interested in seeing this article run at TFA as I'm no longer interested in having any articles run in that venue. It just turns into a big time suck on the day of a TFA. Imzadi 1979 → 22:17, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
