Behavioral Ecology

edit

I wrote this article to the best of my ability as part of a behavioral ecology course at Washington University in St. Louis. Please comment with questions, comments, or concerns about the butterfly or the pageAlexandra.payne (talk) 01:48, 27 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Good job with this article. You included some really interesting information about the butterfly's physiology and interactions with other species. I made a couple of small grammatical and wording errors and added some additionally internal links. I would also suggest describing the "proper" conditions needed for larvae to hatch. You mention that there are necessary conditions, but don’t specify what they are. Also, including the common names of host and food plants would make the information more accessible to a wider audience.

Peer Review for Behavioral Ecology

edit

Overall, this is a very nicely written, well-organized article! I enjoyed reading it very much. There was not much to change, so I added a photo of the male ruddy copper to show the contrasting upper and lowerwing colors. I also moved around the sections a little bit to make the transitions smoother. I moved the section on their wings and color vision down, so that it is right before mating. This seemed appropriate because that section talks about sexual dimorphism in their wings and vision. I also moved the section on host plants up to the larvae section. Lastly, I renamed the heading "Parental care" to "Oviposition" because the females actually do not provide parental care and the heading seemed misleading. "Description" heading was changed to "Physiology" as well. Great job! Uhm.s 10:59, 31 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! I made some changes to the structure of the article, including merging the distribution and habitat sections, moving the life cycle section earlier in the article, and breaking the behavior section into sections on mating, parental care, and mutualism. I also added a photo of one of the host plants. I think it would be nice if the mating and mutualism sections were expanded a little bit, but overall this is a great article. Peer Review for Class

Overall I thought this article was really well written and interesting! I made a few stylistic and grammatical edits to make the article flow a little better. I removed the picture that had been in the "physiology" section because it wasn't available anymore from that source so it wouldn't show up in the article. I also changed the butterfly's name to be consistent throughout the article. For example, you flipped back and forth between the ruddy copper and "L. rubidus" and "Lycaena rubidus" so I just changed them all to L. rubidus to make it a little easier to read. I left the "ruddy copper" name in the physiology section though because it was relevant to what you talked about. Some things I thought could be added to make the article stronger would be a pheromones section. They're briefly mentioned in mating but I felt like there was more about them that could have been added. Great article! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mullenm05 (talkcontribs) 03:27, 1 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
