Language edit

Why is the trans character in this story described using masculine pronouns/language throughout? Additionally the phrase "transition into a real female" is incorrect and offensive. The correct phrase is "medically transition." 70.179.23.72 (talk) 22:45, 23 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Luna novel hardback cover.jpg edit

Image:Luna novel hardback cover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Controversy edit

It's very startling that there's no section in this article about the controversy caused by the novel. The fact that the book is centered around a transgender teen has provided a lot of debate. Has the book been banned anywhere? Has it been taught in school successfully? How are people responding to this novel, and why? Rowenator (talk) 00:11, 21 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Today's World edit

You could add research about how this book has helped others. Or how this book is viewed in society today. I would definitely add a controversial section. Fallscarlett13 (talk) 01:18, 22 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Future Possible Edits to Page edit

Hello, I will be doing some editing to this page for my Literature for Adolescents class. Below are links to articles that I may be referencing and/or using.

I hope to find more as my search continues, but this is a handful of what I have found on my school's databases. LoversSpat (talk) 01:30, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Outline to Editing edit

  • The INTRO
    • I believe it's very short and non descriptive so I would like to add a sentence or two about what Luna is about and make mention to the fact that it is controversial.
  • Plot Summary
    • The summary is also a little weak so I would like to reorganize this and elaborate more on Liam's decisions and situation.
  • Characters
    • Despite mentioning characters like Aly in the summary, her character is not mentioned in this section. I would like to add other characters like Aly, Liam's bully, Liam's idol and the teacher. I would also like to add a separate section for sub/small part characters like the 'popular' group.
  • Genre and Structure
    • I noticed a lot of popular novel pages have this section. I would like to add one here, explaining the point of view. I'll have to avoid my opinion of reasoning and possibly find a reason stated by the author.
  • Controversy/Criticism
    • I would also like to add a section about the controversy this book has faced, such as the banned book list and the conflict of teaching this in school. This is where a few of my sources will come in (I've lost them somehow so I'll have to find them again). I will also find reviews about the novel.
  • References page
  • External links/See Also
    • I would like to edit this section too, since it's so small and slightly non-descriptive.

This looks very good! Try to populate the "Genre and structure" section with ideas from reviewers and critics rather than the author, however. I look forward to seeing your improvements! Wadewitz (talk) 17:57, 27 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Feedback I think that looking at other articles about novels and trying to replicate their structure is a very wise decision: see here for all of the featured novels articles (the highest quality--these are very well written and probably took a lot of effort) and here for all of the good novels articles (not as professional as featured, but still very fine and probably a level of quality and depth that is more achievable in the course of six weeks.) It's definitely wise to discuss things like themes and critical reception: when professional reviewers talk about this novel, what do they say? How have political or medical groups responded to the novel's content or popularity? As you noted, there has been controversy, so surely someone has discussed why this is objectionable or useful. You've got a great start so far. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 04:06, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Peer Comments edit

I think there can be quite a bit of streamlining, condensing, and revising done in the plot summary section. It seems fairly wordy and at times poorly worded. I think the plot summary could also use some reorganization and things of that nature. The character descriptions could use some strengthening as well as some additions. I really think there could be a completely new section added for why the book is controversial, what people have been saying about it, things of this nature. I don't think the plot summary is sufficient to explore the full depth of this novel besides just what happens in the plot. HaddaBeMe (talk) 17:41, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions for Improvement edit

This article could use more of a break up, section wise. There could easily be a section dedicated to the controversy in the book, or even sections on the genre, symbols, and themes. I also think the character descriptions need some work. The Liam section describes him as being "transgendered by night." I don't really think that's the best way to put it. I think it'd be better to say that Liam, also known as Luna, is a transgender teen. Then you could go into the fact that he lives a duel life. Also, you might want to say that the story is in "Regan's point of view" rather than saying "Regan is the point of view." The plot summary was good, and I can't wait to see the full article. Additions based on research edit

Be sure that you add some sections based on your research. The heart of this assignment is learning how to summarize others' work in a succinct manner! Wadewitz (talk) 13:48, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
