... that the Louisville National Medical College, which admitted Black students, was founded by the first Black graduate of the University of Michigan School of Medicine?- ALT1:
... that the Louisville National Medical College, first woman graduate was the wife the the founder of the Black medical school?
- ALT1:
- Comment: proof of facts (citation) https://louisville.edu/medicine/studentaffairs/student-involvement/advisory-colleges-1/fitzbutler-college. I have not reviewed a DYK before as this is my first DYK submission. I promise to learn how to review DYK hooks well before my 5th DYK and probably before I submit even a second one.

- Welcome to DYK, Charliestalnaker! I made minor fixes to the article, and before progressing, I ask you to do some more:
- It's just a little bit to short. You can get there when writing more of a summary in the introduction (founded when by whom ... - and the other things a reader wants to know immediately, not just first college in the state to accept black students).
- Format those references that are just bare urls: please provide title / website or publisher / date if known / access-date
- I'll watch, and then we proceed. You please also watch, - I won't ping every time ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:19, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. Additional information added. Genuinely new and useful information, not just filler. Charliestalnaker (talk) 01:33, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you, that's great, now please work on the refs. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:47, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- Done with references. There must be some template rather than typing each character like "cite web" but I copied it from another reference manually. Charliestalnaker (talk) 20:58, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. There probably is citation help, but I do it like you: copy from a good model. - It's near midnight where I live, so I ask some more patience, checking sources vs. article isn't what I could do now. I think the "no other" should be moved from the lead to history with a reference. The co-founder could come before the first graduation, in chronology. Perhaps mention the merge in the lead. I'm not happy with a ref within a bracket followed by a ref behind the bracket, - perhaps that could be worded without brackets? Just some ideas. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:24, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

- Thank you, both. I like it already much better, and made some further changes, please check. Nice to have (but not needed for approval) would be dates for the refs, a foundation year in the lead, and less repetition of the terms "medical college" and "medical school". It's the subject, sometimes it can be just "it", or "the college", for variety. I am not yet happy with the "first woman" bit in the lead and ALT1. The ref just says that the first graduate was a woman, without a name. The ref for the founder and his wife says that she was the first woman to graduate "in the state", which can be just misunderstood by the first ref. I understand that she entered the college as a student (! - perhaps say so?) only after raising 6 children (quite a hook possibility!) and then became the first in the state - hardly the first at the college, unless her male colleagues studied extremely long, all of them. Please find a better source for "first graduate was a woman" or drop that fact. I hope for a better hook than the two we have, believing that the first in the state for black students is more interesting than the founder's position in graduation, and her career may be even more interesting. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:22, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- ALT 1 may make the school appear corrupt by having admitted the founder's wife. Perhaps an ALT2 might be better, reading as follows:
- ALT2: ... that the Louisville National Medical College was founded for Black students and by the first Black graduate of the University of Michigan School of Medicine after no other Louisville medical school accepted Blacks at the time?
- Thank you, and what would you think of this:
- ALT2a: ... that the Louisville National Medical College was founded for Black students, while no other Louisville medical school accepted Blacks at the time? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:43, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
- ALT2 and 2a are fine with me. Charliestalnaker (talk) 04:05, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
- approving both, then the prep builder has a choice of longer or shorter, - to help Main page balance. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:33, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

- Promoter's commment: Gerda, thanks for the alt hook suggestions! you may want to note that "Black", as a noun to refer to African-American people instead of an adjective (e.g. "i talked to a black yesterday", "the blacks wore green shirts") is seen by some as pejorative and probably shouldn't be used in a hook. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/them) 00:16, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
