Just a note

While LSMSA may have a considerable arts program, it's not the only NCSSSMST school with arts education. Most of them have it, some quite comprehensively. The article seems to imply no other schools have an arts program. 65.182.51.67 13:42, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

It's true that they're letting in sophomores for 2007-2008. They're building new dorms where the soccer field is (next to Watson) and are going to have some classes inside that new dorm. They're also remodeling the Annex. I don't think there's going a "new" high school building. I don't know when the projected year for completion is, but 2008 sounds reasonable. If you go to the 'Master Plan' document, which was available at the Admissions desk during the 2005-2006, schoolyear, it mentions a tenative completion date of the construction as 2010. I find this unlikely, personally - speaking with some of the directors or teachers with a more direct connection to the administration process and the politics of LSMSA expressed sincere doubt. - a former student.

The "giftie" thing

The year after I graduated (coinciding with Brother Dave's retirement), I heard that intervisitation between dorm rooms was permitted so long as the door remained open. Is this true?

Intervisitation was a very tight ship back in '94. It was one of the few things the RAs did well, aside from eating pizza and watching Ren & Stimpy. It didn't happen very frequently. The RAs checked up on you, whether you were in the boys' or girls' dorm. I don't know, things may have changed since then. I remember, intervisitation sucked, because I couldn't get any studying done, with my door wide open, and all the giggling in the hallway. Mindraker (talk) 14:37, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

I (christopherlin) commented: Fine, whatever. Find a source. Teen People July or August 1998, or the newer "cool school" article might have a quote, in which case it would be documented that so-and-so said something about the giftie name.

Anon: This arguement over the label "giftie" is stupid. Look in the 2006 yearbook for the answer, specifically the section labeled "Giftie Life". Doesn't need to be in a major publication to be true. Notice the use of the phrase "Some students"

I graduated last year (2009), and no one that I know there currently or in my year would dislike being referred to as a giftie. The short bus is the giftie bus, many activities have giftie in the name. It may have not been true in the past, but it certainly is now.

Yeah, I don't personally know anyone who objects to being called a giftie. And, yes, most of the people I went to school with are still calling themselves gifties, 20 years after graduating. Assessment as of March 2007

Hello all, and thank you for contributing to this school site. I'm part of the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Schools/Assessment team, and, as requested, I'm reviewing this page. I'm currently giving it a grade of Start on the Wikipedia 1.0 Assessment Scale and an importance of Mid on this importance scale.

My reasoning is as follows: This is a very balanced article (unlike many such article I have reviewed of late), but it needs more information and citation for the claims and infromation it presents. Adam McCormick 06:14, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Before re-adding this section, please check out: WP:SCH#WNTI. The consensus of Wikischools is that only unique courses or courses not found at most American high schools (or at the very least, schools in your state) should be noted. Needs Updated

Under admissions the last thing updated was the 2008-2009 students numbers. Also it is not a magnet school as far as I can tell being a current student. student (talk) 23:47, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

name change & controversy

there is a law that proposes to change the name of the school to include Long. It involved controversy (covered in several news articles) between many alumni who were against the name change and the politicians who proposed the name change.
