I've added details of the naming of Louisburgh - and corrected details of who did, from a book written by the descendants of the person who laid out the town - the 1st Marquess of Sligo. The book which contains historical data from the comprehensive Westport House archives, is more than likely the correct version. The claim that it was named after someone called louise appears to have no credence, and may be a romantic myth.

I'm also not sure about the claim that the 1st Marquess laid out the town as a place of refuge for Catholics fleeing sectarian conflict in the North. Does anyone have a credible reference for this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Westporthistory (talkcontribs) 03:44, 19 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
