'graduated with a first in English in 1968, and gained an MPhil in 19th-century English Studies (1973), MA (1979). He taught English at the University of Malawi between 1972 and 1974.'

Does 'MA (1979)' mean that his BA was converted to an MA in the normal (Oxford) run of things? How does the MPhil (1973) fit in with the teaching at the University of Malawai between 1972 and 1974? Snugglepuss (talk) 18:26, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yes. the 1979 date was the date of conversion. The 1973 date is the date the MPhil degree was actually awarded, which happened while I was in Malawi (I needed it to put on my CV) Oxford is weird. 80.189.212.219 (talk) 10:14, 27 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

'After flirting briefly with applications of computers in History under the tutelage of Manfred Thaller, he succumbed to the lure of SGML'.

Not encyclopaedic, more Mills & Boon. Snugglepuss (talk) 18:32, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sorry you don't like my style. I don't think you'll find "tutelage" in any Mills and Boon though. 80.189.212.219 (talk) 10:15, 27 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
