Misc.

• "The sacred lotus symbolises growth towards perfection and enlightenment". This is a partisan comment, even if referenced:
  sacred lotus → lotus, considered sacred, ...
  symbolises growth towards perfection and enlightenment → +is considered by [whoever it is] to...

"Sacred lotus" is the name of the plant. Said "is used as a symbol of", which is certainly purely descriptive. I think we have this quite neutral now.

It still sounds as if it were a universal symbol, which I doubt. You can check, for example, "D. T. Devendra, Lotus without Symbolism"

• Section "Etymology and origins" should be changed to "Etymology and history" for it doesn't give any concrete origins info and 2nd para is more like history.

• "shines as a beautiful flower" is quite subjective.

• What are "nadi channels"? Nadi is linked to a Fijian town.

Good catch. Linked to Nadi (yoga). Channels for vital fluids in the subtle body.

• Para 3 in "Effects" should be the the 1st para. Now, we have para 1 on adverse effects, then para 2 on claimed benefits and then para 3 on adverse effects (again).

Iyengar wrote only one book of this name, in 1966; I have cited the 1991 Unwin paperback edition in Lotus position#Sources, and wikilinked it.

• Could you please provide here the quote supporting "The pose is ancient, being one of the first asanas to be named, for example in the 8th century Patanjalayogashastravivarana"? I looked into the book and although it does mention lotus and Patanjalayogashastravivarana, I could not find that it is one of the first asanas to be named. If you've to say: Patanjalayogashastravivarana is ancient+it does mention lotus=one of the first asanas to be named, then it is, in my opinion, OR.

Um, you've misread what I've written. The claim is that it is an extremely early asana, aka one of the first ever to be described, because it is contained in the 8th century Patanjalayogashastravivarana. That claim would be true if the asana were mentioned in the closing words of that text. Hope that's clear.

• "In Buddhism, statues of the founder, Siddharta Gautama, often depict him seated in lotus position and enthroned on a lotus flower." This is supported by two images depicting Buddha. This is original research. We need a published source here that states to this effect.

Said "sometimes", certainly true.

My objection is not against "often". I have problem with the fact that a claim is being supported by use of images, which makes it your own research because you have a few images (there could be many) which depict him in this position and based on these you are deriving a conclusion. A source which says that he is often/sometimes depicted this way is to be added; like you have one for Shiva. If no other source is found, Shiva source can be used as it mentions Buddha too. These image sources should be removed.

• "Tirthankara is often represented seated in Lotus posture" is not supported by Zimmer, Heinrich (1953) pp. 209-210. It says "yoga", but not lotus.

Another ref provided, with full quotation. It confirms that lotus is the only seated position shown for Tirthankaras.
