Taxonomic status of variants

Chinense vs sinensis
editI am curious how this species came to be called "chinense." I thought plants indigenous to China were typically named "sinensis" from the latin word for Chinese, for instance Wisteria sinensis, Camellia sinensis, or Cordia sinensis.
To be clear, I'm not questioning the article's accuracy, just the odd name. Thanks, 24.90.212.130 (talk) 01:31, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
