Talk:Lord Changping

Relation edit

Could his relation to the Chu and Qin Kings be more clarified and cited? The intro and center paragraph doesn't even acknowledge his royal relations.--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 17:47, 1 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, those are the only authoritative accounts on Lord Changping in the 24 Standard Histories of China, so his life and relationships are filled with mysteries despite being an important figure in this period. According to the article of Chinese Wikipedia, however, Sima Zhen's commentary on the Records of the Grand Historian presumed he was a son of a Chu king but decided to advance his early career in Qin (Chu was a conservative state and very harsh even for low-ranked royal families, while Qin was extremely liberal and open to foreigners). His commentary is generally considered to be classic and trustful if not authoritative, so it may be used as a source for this article, though I don't have it at hand now.
