A twisted picture

Yes: it isn't. The name comes from "les longines" meaning "the long meadows", the location in St. Imier where the first manufactory was built. David.Boettcher 11:27, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
Advertisement or article?
This article doesn't read like an encyclopedia entry but like a corporate brochure. The company website seems to be the sole source for the layout and organization of a sales-pitch/article.

- You are right. I wonder if there is a single contributor to Wikipedia who is capable of writing knowledgably, intelligently and dispassionately about watches. Now that something that tells the time accurately costs next to nothing, expensive wristwatches do indeed seem "luxury items", i.e. baubles that addle the brains of anybody who approaches them. Incorrect deletion of important information
Hello
I am not very familiar with how Wikipaedia works. I am eager to learn. I have been updating the Longines English page and have seen that the information that regards important historical figures that have used the Longines watches has all been deleted.
Longines is well known among the watch collecting community for early aviation and exploration. It was used as instruments for harsh environments much like Rolex and Smiths were used to conquer Mt. Everest. Longines Weems watches are among the most famous since it filled a period in navigation history when clocks or ship chronometers that were used for dead recognning needed to be more portable and extremely accurate. P.V.H. Weems was a Naval Captain that developed the aviation version of Celestial Navigation back in the 1920s with the help of the US Navy, the Imperial Japanese Navy, and the United States Naval Academy. His seconds setting watch invention was mass produced by Longines and was used by Willey Post, Amy Johnson, Admiral Byrd, etc to fly higher, fly farther, and fly over open ocean, which in the 1920s-1930 was a great achievement. Of course one of the most famous aviators in history is Charles Lindberg, he also used Longines watches and was the inventor of the Angle Hour Longines watch which was a major upgrade to the Weem Second Setting watch.
I believe you have made a serious mistake in removing all of these famous people that have contributed to the development of aviation much like the Wright Brothers.

- However, I am an expert on Longines watches and it's history. I believe you would want someone to write about Longines that has spent several years researching Longines and has been identified and used in several publications and books as a Longines watch expert to write about Longines.
