London Institution was founded by merchants. Some of these merchants went on to quote the London Institution as there home address. Were there apartments there for them to rent or what?

Interesting. I am personally only aware of Porson having lived there. As the Institution occupied various premises during its lifetime, it may depend what era. Do you have dates for the merchants that you refer to? and who were they? Mariakinnaird (talk) 10:13, 15 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Henry Hoare edit

I'm trying to disambiguate "Henry Hoare": Henry Hoare (disambiguation) shows candidates who are mostly from the Hoare banking family.

In the case of the founder listed for London Institution, it seems this will be the "Henry Hoare, Esq. FLS" mentioned here. So a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London. Likely is one of the bankers already on the dab page. I'm leaving this note to preserve research.

There is a list of Linnean Society members from 1805, and it gives Henry Hoare of Cumberland Street, Portman Square.[1] So this is our man, surely. Charles Matthews (talk) 10:50, 1 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Well, Henry Hoare (MCC cricketer, 1823) has to be a candidate. He turned 21 in 1805, and his father was FLS. He is not known to have had any intellectual interests, but that wouldn't have ruled him out. See Francis Gregg#Henry Gregg for an example, with the Royal Society, some years earlier. Francis Baring edit

What is the provenance of the 1815 list of managers?
I have de-linked Sir Francis Baring, 1st Baronet as he had been dead for five years. Francis Baring, 1st Baron Northbrook was 19, and at university. If the name is correct, I suppose an unidentified cousin. Davidships (talk) 17:50, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
