Re: Units of the London district edit

  • 1. Have a look at: http://www.army.mod.uk/unitsandorgs/divisions_brigades/hq_london_district/units.htm the units currently attached to the London district are listed there! Therefore I reverted your edits as the graphic and listing are intended to show the current units attached to the London district - when the units change we/I will change the article entry and the graphic.
  • 2. re the companies: the 3 companies carry on the tradition of the dissolved 2. Btn. of the 3 Guard regiments - this needs to be mentioned. Therefore in a way (can you suggest a better one) this need to be mentioned.
  • 3. Never change a graphic without asking the creator first!!! next time ask me and we can than discuss it. just changing graphics without asking the creator and comments like "Don't make changes if you don't know what you're talking about" ARE extremely rude and definitly the wrong way to collaborate on articles.

  • Re: second revert:
I know FAS and I know that light role infantry units are not fixed! but the information I inserted are the currently attached units to the London district and they are much more relevant to readers than just "Foot Guards". --noclador (talk) 11:10, 30 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
The fact is that half the information put on there is just wrong:
The Coldstream Guards are at Windsor
The Welsh Guards are at Wellington Barracks
The line infantry battalion (2RRF, not 2 MERCIAN) is still at Hounslow
The incremental companies are at Wellington Barracks, NOT Woolwich
The incremental companies hold the traditions of the 2nd Battalions, they ARE NOT part of the 2nd Battalions

  • Coldstream Guards are at Windsor & Welsh Guards are at Wellington Barracks - you are correct; I mixed that up.
  • 2RRF, not 2 MERCIAN - you're indeed correct: the change was January 08 - I got my info from the London District homepage - obviously the 2 RRF is much quicker with homepage updating than the London District...
  • incremental companies hold the traditions of the 2nd battalions, which are in suspended animation - as the 3 companies link to an article about it, we can leave it at this.
  • When will Cavalry Barracks close? If I remember right 16 Royal Artillery left the Royal Artillery Barracks in July 07 and the incremental companies and public duties line infantry battalion are supposed to move there this year. Do you know when the move will occur?
  • re: out of date: as postings to the London districts are (as far as I know) 3 years - so plenty of time the units can be in the article and 1 change a years won't be a problem.
  • re 3 CDO BDE - as it is now: any errors? Now it clearly differentiates between 3 CDO BDE and the Royal Marines as a whole and the Army units are in a different colour than the rest - any other changes you think that are needed?
  • next time ask me to change the graphic - I will do it! also I update the graphics constantly - so next time a unit in the London district changes I will update the graphic once more
  • more pressing questions: have a look at: commons:http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Military_OrBat_Graphics/UK I spend 3 days trying to piece together a complete OrBat of the British Army - but the homepages is absolutely confusing (especially regarding Logistics and TA). As you seem to be the best informed Wikipedian in all things British Army could you have a look at the graphics and check if and which units might be wrongly assigned? also: what units make up 104 Logistic Brigade? who commands 16 Air Assault Brig: Joint Helicopter Command, 3 Division or 5 Division??? thanks for any info on the British Army structure. --noclador (talk) 13:54, 30 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

1st Battalion, Grenadier Guards edit

Isn't the 1st Battalion, Grenadier Guards with the 11th Infantry Brigade on its way to Afghanistan?? --noclador (talk) 09:27, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Remember 11 Inf Bde is a provisional temporary formation. Units are only attached from their parent commands, which I assume for 1 GG is still LonDist, though this could be easily checked. 11 Inf Bde will disband on its return. as far as I know the units in question are now under operational command of 11th Infantry Brigade and will only return to their commands once 11th Brigade is disbanded in 2010. --noclador (talk) 22:22, 4 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Public Duties Incremental Companies edit

Nijmegen Company, Grenadier Guards is based at Wellington Barracks along with No 7 Company, Coldstream Guards and F Company, Scots Guards. They are not based at Woolwich.

The Welsh Guards at Hounslow will be replaced by the Irish Guards next year, while the 1st PWRR will be replaced at Woolwich by the 1st Royal Anglian Regiment.

Quite unecessary. Debate here before putting back.
