Pot Smoker

Any truth to the rumor he's a pot smoker? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.113.108.172 (talk) 17:56, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Early life and career

Added details about Lloyd's early life. As one of those he grew up with in the Linden Houses, I can attest to the personality attributes described. Lloyd has since gone on to great things, and I can only assume he has "mellowed" with age. But his early-life personality is interesting in light of his later career. --Dan Schwartz, MD 69.86.230.178 13:12, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

This passage include these comments that were later removed: "He is remembered by some of those he grew up with as brilliant and highly motivated - and as one who at times resorted to highly public personal attack on those who he considered his competitors and rivals. This personality trait is of interest in light of his rapid career rise in a highly competitive industry." -- John S. Peterson (talk) 23:09, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Winthrop House

Blankfein lived at Winthrop House during his undergraduate years. Nearly 400 people lived there at that time, and additional numbers came and went while he was there. Many of them have had distinguished careers in later life. Why are you pointing to one of them, Bernanke, but not mentioning the others? Surely, most of these associations were of no consequence.

You need to show why Bernanke's presence was significant in relation to Blankfein. It could be important, of course, or it may be utterly insignificant. This is left to the reader's imagination, which suggests something sinister. What is the connection? Fconaway (talk) 17:41, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Siblings?

I would be interested in Blankfeins family of origin. Especially whether he has been an only child or has had siblings. Does anyone have information regarding this question? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.64.220.174 (talk) 15:16, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Correct?

Are the salary figures actually correct? They seem extremely high and I find it hard to believe that anybody would accept such a salary given the problems in the world at the moment and the sheer size of these figures which greatly greatly exceed that of a worker on minimum wage. How does anybody deserve such a salary?--109.228.75.116 (talk) 22:35, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

By working hard, using intiative and not ending up on the minimum wage. This is totally relevant bro. Dan Rayn (talk) 13:28, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Made-up connection?

In the politics section, an editor has subtlely led the reader to believe that Goldman's philanthropic contribution was made BECAUSE of Blankfein's comments. Who said the two events are connected?? ask123 (talk) 23:20, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Agreed, this section is confusing to say the least... Dan Rayn (talk) 13:32, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Politics irrelevant

The Politics section contains one sentence (the first) relevant to Lloyd Blankfein's political experience/interests/connections, the rest is irrelevant. Dan Rayn (talk) 13:32, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

harvard

attending harvard is a prestigious merit, i would say. how come a young boy from such a low-income family was able to attend harvard, financially? there must be a fascinating story behind that, surely? --Popoi (talk) 22:19, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

ah i found an interesting article if anyone is interested. he was "scouted" by harvard and offered scholarships. http://management.fortune.cnn.com/2011/04/21/where-blankfein-came-from/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Poposhka (talkcontribs) 22:22, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Ethnicity?

I must confess an interest in the ethnicity (!) of the top CEOs, but is it actually relevant in an encyclopedia? Surely nationality will suffice? Ghostreveries (talk) 16:21, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Ethnicity is relevant and from a purely academic standpoint is interesting. Nationality is largely irrelevant whereas ethnicity often has ties to occupations and reflects trends in industry. No reason to remove this. Bdg4 (talk) 18:20, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Please do NOT remote the ethnicity. There has been a recent trend to purge the ethnicity and religion of individuals involved in the 2007-2009 financial scandals. Supposedly mentioning religion/ethnicity with regards to this particular scandal is anti-semitic. However, since religion/ethnicity is commonly cited for every other major public figure, especially in cases of wrongdoing, for the sake of fairness, Blankfein's background CANNOT be swept under the rug. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GhostMan1221 (talkcontribs) 04:56, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

The statement that Blankfein was "raised Jewish" is not evidenced in the citation for that passage, so I have added "Citation needed" there. I have removed both the "Ethnicity: Jewish" and the "Religion: Judaism" lines from the Infobox, for a couple of reasons. First, as I mentioned, his relation to judaism and jewish people is not evidenced by citation in either the main article or the Infobox. Second, having two references to jewishness here seems excessive. Both "Jewish" and "Judaism" linked to the same article. I don't think it would be likely to see an Infobox with both "Ethnicity: Christian" and "Religion: Christianity" in it. Let's please try to avoid bias here. Mentioning judaism is fine if there is some citation to support it, but even if it is found that he was raised jewish, this does not establish that he practices the religion now. Trbdavies (talk) 18:47, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

The difference is that "Christian" is not a widely accepted ethnic group, but "Jewish" is. There are self-identified Jews who don't practice the Jewish faith. In any case, it might be difficult to source Blankfein self-identifying himself as Jewish, and as it's since been removed it's really a nonissue. Strachkvas (talk) 08:26, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Neutrality

I think this article, especially the section about his role as the CEO of Goldman Sachs, is negative to the point that it interferes with the article's neutrality. It only discusses scandals and political criticism of Blankfein without containing any info about his job performance at the helm of Goldman Sachs, or mention of any positive coverage of Blankfein, such as the fact that he is well liked by Goldman employees and shareholders. At least, I think the "Goldman CEO" section should be made less negative. The rest of the article is OK, but that section is way too negative and is the reason why I put the neutrality tag on the article. 69.14.36.184 (talk) 02:21, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

I've done my best to address your concerns. I'm sorry it took so long for someone to do so. I've now removed the tag. Please feel free to readd it, if you feel my fixes have inadequately addressed your POV concerns regarding Blankfein. LHM 17:49, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Personal Life - Removing info about his children's education

I propose deleting the following four sentences in the section, Personal life, that discuss the current status of Lloyd Blankfein's children:

Alexander married in April 2013; he and his wife are pursuing M.B.A.s at Harvard Business School. Alexander is to become a consultant at Bain & Company in September 2013.[39][40][41][42] Blankfein's younger son, Jonathan, graduated from Harvard University and works as an analyst at Goldman Sachs.[39][43] His daughter Rachel is now a student at Harvard University.[39]

This type of tangential information does not seem relevant or appropriate for an encyclopedic entry about Lloyd Blankfein. If you have an objection, please feel free to weigh in. Some of everything (talk) 00:07, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

  • agree - This is not germane and such detail is unduly intrusive. SPECIFICO talk 01:43, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
