Red links to Usk Grammar School and to Roger Edwards (wool merchant) edit

User:Martinevans123 has removed the unresolved links for Usk Grammar School and for its founder Roger Edwards (wool merchant). I think these may merit articles.

Usk Grammar School was founded in 1621 and was one of the historic endowed schools of England and Wales. Its 19th century buildings are listed. I don't know when it closed or if it was amalgamated with another school.

Roger Edwards endowed the Roger Edwards Educational Trust, which is still in operation, and it appears that Roger Edwards was a significant figure in 17th century Monmouthshire.

Here are some sources:

  • Schools Inquiry Commission (1868). Report of the Commissioners. G .E. Eyre and W. Spottiswoode. p. Appendix 61.: Lists Usk Grammar School and gives its founder and foundation date
  • Newman, John (2000). Gwent/Monmouthshire. The Buildings of Wales. Penguin. ISBN 0140710531.
  • "Usk including Glascoed and Gwehelog". Kelly's 1891 Directory of Monmouthshire. 1891.
  • "THE OLD GRAMMAR SCHOOL, MARYPORT STREET, USK". Coflein. Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales.
  • "The Old Grammar School and attached iron railings, Usk". British Listed Buildings.
  • "What is the Roger Edwards Educational Trust (REET)?". The Roger Edwards Educational Trust.
  • "Gwent Archives: Roger Edwards' Charity Papers". Archives Wales.
  • "The Roger Edwards Educational Trust". Usk Town Council.
  • Lombard, Daniel (16 January 2008). "Council chief admits fund was 'mismanaged'". South Wales Argus.

I am confident that Usk Grammar School merits an article. If we can establish that it was renamed or merged into a current school then it could be a redirect to a section in the article on that school. It is less clear that there is material to establish sufficient notability for an article on Roger Edwards. He is not in the Dictionary of Welsh Biography. If we get an article on the school then there could be a redirect to a section on him there, or to a new article on the Roger Edwards Educational Trust.

I will restore the redlink for Usk Grammar School, but not for Roger Edwards. Verbcatcher (talk) 17:27, 2 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry if that seems a bit over-the-top, I was confusing this article with Usk, where the redlinks remain. Verbcatcher (talk) 17:33, 2 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
User:Martinevans123 is incredibly sorry and apologises profusely for such wanton misdemeanours and pleads not to be taken to AN/I and be blocked indefinitely for such errant vandalism. He will probably have to pay a suitable self-imposed penance by helping to create or improve one or more of these articles. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:45, 2 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
