"Extra greasy beats"? LOL

Perhaps someone should explain this reference or provide a citation? As written, it sounds more review/opinion than factual and is pretty jarring to read in an otherwise good piece on Lizzo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.108.1.11 (talk) 18:46, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Lizzo

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Lizzo's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "theguardian":

  • From Lizzobangers: Fox, Killian (June 15, 2014). "Lizzobangers review – Lizzo's super-charged debut". The Guardian. Retrieved June 6, 2015.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 03:16, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

Origin

Origin listed inaccurately as Minneapolis. Lizzo was born in Detroit and started performing professionally in Houston. Her career originated in Houston. She lived in Minneapolis for awhile and did some recording there, after starting working in Houston. An edit is needed to fix this error. Genwicky (talk) 05:58, 16 October 2019 (UTC).

Add a sentence indicating that Lizzo performed "My Skin" live on NPR's World Cafe on December 7, 2015. Here is a source for this information: https://www.npr.org/2015/12/07/458831272/world-cafe-presents-lizzo MusicLoverLawyer (talk) 23:03, 22 October 2019 (UTC)

I suppose it could be added, although would we also add every other time she performed while (presumably) promoting the album that was released that month? I don't think it's too relevant, really. - ChrisWar666 (talk) 00:55, 24 October 2019 (UTC)
Not done: agree with ChrisWar666 – we don't need to list every single time she's performed a song. NiciVampireHeart 00:56, 26 October 2019 (UTC)

After inspiring an internet meme on the TikTok video-sharing app[56][57] and being featured in the 2019 Netflix film Someone Great,[58] Lizzo's 2017 copyrighted single, "Truth Hurts", began to gain popularity and was added to the deluxe version of Cuz I Love You. The single became a viral sleeper hit,[59] and, in turn, increased interest for Cuz I Love You, which remained in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 for several months.[60] Davidenatanal (talk) 08:50, 14 November 2019 (UTC) Just changed to video-sharing :)

Either remove Category:Members of the Church of God in Christ or provide a statement with a source that she currently identifies herself as a member of this church. The article states "Lizzo grew up attending the Church of God in Christ." (bold added)[1] WP:BLPCAT states: "Categories regarding religious beliefs (or lack of such) ... should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief (or lack of such) ... in question". "Growing up" in a certain religion is not the same as self-identifying with that religion as an adult. As an analogy, William J. Murray grew up as an atheist but does not self-identify as an atheist as an adult. His article does not (and should not) include Category:American atheists. Lizzo may consider herself a part of this religion as an adult, but that is not sourced in the article. Wikipedia has higher standards for sourcing with BLP articles. Thanks. 75.191.40.148 (talk) 17:03, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

Fatshaming

Lizzo has, unwittingly, started a national conversation about fat-shaming and body-shaming, with figures such as Boyce Watkins being criticized for the statements they have made about her. This should be in the article somehow, but not in a way that itself body-shames her. 63.231.141.132 (talk) 05:01, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

Do you have a reliable source? 75.191.40.148 (talk) 21:46, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
For a reliable source as to Lizzo's body mass index being a factor in her celebrity, Time Magazine's entertainer-of-the-year profile of her might serve the purpose. https://time.com/entertainer-of-the-year-2019-lizzo/ When she speaks about her weight on her Twitter account, it is to remind readers that she prefers being viewed as an entertainer and not as a Social stigma of obesity activist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.206.83.213 (talk) 08:40, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

Change "flutist" to "floutist." 68.226.178.221 (talk) 05:22, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

Not done: "Flutist" is the American English version of the word, "flautist," (which I believe is what you meant) is more commonly the British English version. JTP (talkcontribs) 15:39, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

flutist should be replaced with flautist because it is the proper word to describe a flute player. Scarycrazymann (talk) 22:33, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

Flutist is correct American English. – Thjarkur (talk) 22:53, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

Typo

It's flautist not flutist Simply simon says (talk) 20:46, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

@Simply simon says: It's not necessarily a typo; both terms are acceptable. While "flautist" is more common in British English, "flutist" is more common in American English, and because Lizzo is American, the term "flutist" is probably more appropriate here. I didn't notice until after I replied that this same question has been asked and answered three times in three of the four sections right above this section. Please do a quick read-through of talk page discussions to avoid asking the same question over and over again. Thanks. Aoi (青い) (talk) 20:53, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

Flutist

Is flutist her occupation?

According to Infobox guidelines, the lead section should include the occupations the person is known for. She does incorporate flute to her live performance and is an important part of her stage presence, but her occupation? Cornerstonepicker (talk) 01:53, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

I'm not sure this argument holds water for a number of reasons. She's a professionally trained flutist. She's definitely well known for playing the flute at this point. It's an integral part of her musicianship, and she is a professional musician. Now it's neither her primary occupation nor what she's best known for, but is that weighty enough to call for striking "flutist"? By that same logic, one could say that Don Henley shouldn't be called a "drummer" in his article, even though he most definitely is. So I would conclude that either "flutist" or "musician" should be listed under occupations, but I'm not sure which would be best. Groupthink (talk) 10:11, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

Occupation For Lizzo

Lizzo was actually a rapper in a group called Cornrow Clique, so can anybody here please change Lizzo's occupations to "rapper, singer, songwriter, and flutist" and "Rapper · singer · songwriter" in the infobox? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.248.162.111 (talk) 01:53, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

Please change the genre to Hip Hop - Soul. Lizzo is considered a Hip-Hop/R&B/Soul artist, and although this song has soulful elements, there is a rap element to this song. That would make it a hip-hop song. Thank you. Lizzofan2020 (talk) 14:43, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

In the section "Personal Life," the following statement should be revised:

Original: She partially credits social media, and the Internet in general, for changing the narrative around size and giving visibility to overweight women. Proposed revision: She partially credits social media, and the Internet in general, for changing the narrative around size and giving visibility to plus-size women.

Reason: The article in the citation never used the word "overweight" to describe Lizzo. The term "overweight" promotes stigma and should not be used, unless it is a direct quotation for the source. Lightllama42 (talk) 23:09, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

The last phrase should read "unless it is a direct quotation FROM the source" Lightllama42 (talk) 23:12, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Under Lizzo’s “personal life” it states that she said she was “an ally” and that she “leans heterosexual” but that was a partial quote and does not give an accurate depiction. The full quote is “I’m an ally, but you know what? Here’s what I’m going to say about sexuality. I think what we knew about LGBT, and then LBGTQ, and then LGBTQ+. There are so many more wonderful letters to add to the spectrum. In the future, we’re going to be like, “This binary box we were put in was really restricting.” I was raised in a world where you only had a few options and you chose that option. I, of course, lean heterosexual. I think that penis is incredible. You can agree?! But I also think it’s unfair to the human existence to limit the spectrum of what you’re capable of sexually.” This quote is has the same citation of course, Variety Magazine. The person who edited this did on the 14th of March 2022 which is around when Lizzo’s album came out. The editor of this page clearly wanted to show an inaccurate picture of what was said. Please fix this, it’s not true to who Lizzo said herself that she is and I hope Wikipedia does not agree with what has happened here. 108.26.200.185 (talk) 17:51, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. Including that entire quote seems excessive. The current quotes provide the necessary context. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 18:26, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
