Two issues, and a suggestion
editThis is an old article, but it has not improved much with time. It has two major issues.
Firstly, there is only one reference, and that's only a marginal source that wouldn't be acceptable on a history article, say. The article needs proper sourcing for the claims it makes. What has stopped a vandal adding a flag or two to the list? Indeed, how do we know the nations on the list are actually users of the pattern? It's not satisfactory.
Secondly, the list of flags/nations says extremely little about the evolution of the pattern. It barely even hints at the most basic fact, which is that it's a French pattern with many descendants, in which a family tree can be discerned.
The two issues could with benefit be addressed together, by writing a brief history of the pattern's development in France and then in other nations, and grouping those in that history, with suitable references. We could then get rid of the (totally useless) flag icons. Chiswick Chap (talk) 17:50, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
