Talk:Little brown bird

Latest comment: 5 years ago by Cygnis insignis in topic Rename?

Two similar terms edit

  • Comic tern, a juvenile Arctic tern or Common tern, indistinguishable in the field (cf. comic turn)
  • Miscellaneous warbler (sing, damn you!)

I think that both are common among British birders, but they need sourcing. Narky Blert (talk) 19:42, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Rename? edit

Why was this renamed from little brown job to little brown bird? Was there any discussion prior to this? This seems to be another move from an established UK COMMONNAME to the US form of the name, right against ENGVAR.

Also, what is an "LLB"? (unsourced) "Little brown bat"? How? Andy Dingley (talk) 16:56, 23 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Corrected by another, LBB. There was no discussion. What is meant by "another move from an established UK COMMONNAME … right against ENGVAR"? Are they UK US variants, and does that happen a lot? And the convention is to link shouting here, just saying, FWIW. cygnis insignis 17:31, 23 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
What do you mean by "shouting"? Please don't over-dramatise. We have a number of ALLCAPS pages, WP:COMMONNAME is one, WP:ENGVAR is another. As these are generally so well known, there is little need to link them on every use. Although if you're unfamiliar with ENGVAR, now might be a good time to read it. What is the appropriate level of drama, when the US are stealing names. cygnis insignis 17:40, 23 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
