Disambiguating Little Italies

We need some clarification in the article. The article is mainly about the Taylor St. "Little Italy" (likely the biggest..at least formerly, and most well-known), but there are other "Little Italies" in Chicago as well (Little Hell, Heart of Italy, etc). Specifically, in the "decline" part of the article, Cabrini Green is mentioned as having replaced parts of Little Italy. However, this is not the Taylor St. Little Italy, but rather "Little Hell" a formerly Sicilian settlement area. The gentrification section seems to refer to the former "Little Hell" area as well. If we're referring to the Taylor St. Little Italy, we should be talking about UIC, not the near north side. We shouldn't skip between the multiple "Little Italies" without defining them.- AKeen 16:59, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

I've added a Little Hell section and moved the Cabrini info there. I have a book by Humbert Nelli called "Italians in Chicago" which I will use to add more to this article later. - AKeen 17:22, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

GA review

Article is very well written and extensively referenced. The history section looks great. I might recommend moving 'gentrification' as a subsection under history, since it seems to fit a bit better there. I think this is really close to GA status, but after reading it, I just think it's missing something. So I don't think it passes criteria 3a. The Italian American Sports hall of fame & some roman catholic churches are mentioned in the lead, but there's nothing in the main article about them. There also doesn't seem to be too much information about various buildings and landmarks currently in this section of town, and possibly include some photographs. Also, is there anything that can be said about the politics of this section of town and how it integrates into Chicago's overall city government picture? Are there any notable people from Little Italy? Dr. Cash 19:36, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

MISGUIDED REFERENCES REGARDING TAYLOR STREET'S LITTLE ITALY —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vromano (talk • contribs) 01:07, 30 March 2009 (UTC) The authorities they site regarding the ethnic composition of Taylor Street's Little Italy are either wrong or have been misinterpreted. As a life-long resident of Taylor Street's Little Italy and editor/publisher of the Taylor Street Archives, I have taken the liberty to correct the opening paragraphs regardng: 1) Chicagoland's Little Italies and 2) The ethnic composition of Little Italy versus the ethnic composition of the Near West Side (Italians, Greeks, Jews, Iris, Germans, etc.)

I don't know if this is what the above is referencing, but the article's citation ( Binford, Henry C., "Multicentered Chicago", The Encyclopedia of Chicago, p. 548-9, Eds. Grossman, James R., Keating, Ann Durkin, and Reiff, Janice L., 2004, The University of Chicago Press, ISBN 0-226-31015-9)) says with the last sentence on page 548 (and goes over to page 549)- "Even in Irish-dominated Bridgeport or the North Side's Little Italy,..." (Here is the on-line link to the same section: http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/854.html. This source appears to be saying Little Italy is on the North Side. Then, in the same book, on page 490 (here is the online version: http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/758.html ), it says - "Chicago's "Little Italy" developed in the Near West Side around Halsted and Taylor Streets near Jane Addams's Hull House....". FYI - I notified the editors of the Encyclopedia about the apparent discrepancy. I'll post it here if I get a response. Pknkly (talk) 09:58, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Move "Notes" under References section

To me it looks as though the items under the "Notes" section should be under the "References" section and those items under the current "References" section should be moved under a new "Further reading" section. I propose the shifts. Pknkly (talk) 05:44, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
