[Comment: The person who wrote the above has very little understanding of Buddhism. Yes, the Buddha did have instances of bodily pains - well he eventually died from a combination of food poisoning and old age - but in his "awakened state", he understood all these physical and mental manifestations of pain, pleasure, sorrow and joy are but illusions of an unawakened mind. The Lord Buddha never talked about judgment or about judging anyone - that is precisely what being "separate from judgment" means - we are all lost within Samsara, and the Buddha taught us the way out of Samsara. And the part about being a supernatural being - you must not have heard of the Jataka tales then? That was what being "able to remember that he had been a girl, a tree, a monkey" means. The Jataka tales are a part of EVERY BUDDHIST TRADITION. You cannot be a Buddhist and not believe in Rebirth - it is just not possible, contrary to the views of some so-called "Western" Buddhists, because the Buddha taught the way to break OUT OF the cycle of Rebirth. There would not be much point to Buddhism if the concept of Rebirth is a false one - you might just as well pay a psychoanalyst.]

I agree, and I have removed the very poorly written section referred to, titled The Buddha's Teachings. The word translated there as "judgment" is presumably prajna, more usually translated by Buddhists as wisdom or discrimination, and the Buddha certainly had plenty to say about that. One cannot expect a commercial Hollywood movie to accurately represent Buddhist teachings, so any section devoted to criticism from a Buddhist standpoint is doomed. I mean one might as well rewrite the entire thing. Better to spend one's time constructively criticizing books and films that actually claim to be Buddhist.--Shantavira|^{feed me} 13:34, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Plot and nothing else?

Honestly, all this is plot at the moment, nothing about production, how it was received and perhaps more importantly the underlying philosophy. I believe once I found the source of the dialogue between Siddharta and Mara portrayed in the movie, but now I can't seem to find it. What text is this dialogue from? Thanks.
