I was hoping to learn the pronunciation of Gaussian: Gowsian or gorshian? I've heard it both ways. 59.167.0.133 11:55, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Neither. Gauss rhymes with louse, and Gaussian is the same with the normal pronunciation of the -ian ending. In IPA, [ˈgaʊsɪən]. Algebraist 11:43, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Gauss gun vs rifle

Listed here as Gauss gun, linking to the coilgun article which gives the primary alternate term as Gauss rifle. Which should be used here? --64.236.208.27 (talk) 20:51, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

Both things exist as far as I'm concerned. One uses a number of coils to accelerate a load, the other one uses two powered rails and the Lorentz effect. Don't cite me though. --FUZxxl (talk) 10:51, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

Better organization needed

Currently, the first two chapters are organized by what word ("Gauss, "Gaussian", "function" or "map") occurs in the topic. That provides no valuable information, as anyone can simply type that name in the search box to get the same otherwise unorganized results; we don't need an article for that.
