Verification Failed

There have been entries recently which failed verification This is a perennial issue on these pages. This time, the info ([1]) added by Koranion is sourced but the sources themselves do not support their inclusion.

• A Baghdad bombing (source), but the source doesn't ascribe the attack to ISIL and it does not describe it as terrorism.
• Another Baghdad bombing (source), but again the source does not ascribe the attack to ISIL and it does not describe it as terrorism.

Pinging Doug Weller (who's familiar with issues on these pages) and Drmies (who won't hesitate to tell me I'm full of crap)... Am I mistaken or otherwise in the wrong here? @EvergreenFir: I agree. Not all bombings in Iraq are terrorist. And I'm not sure about the Hebron one - I don't think that all attacks by individual Palestinians are terrorist, and certainly not based on a headline. Doug Weller talk 18:07, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

I removed ([2]) an entries because I could not verify it. The two sources given ([3], [4]) do not mention the ELN. EvergreenFir (talk) 18:19, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

More items removed:

• Burkina Faso - Source doesn't mention terrorism or Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. Also the link mentions nothing about this entry so I removed it too.
• Sinai, Egypt - Not a reliable source
• Burkina Faso - Same as above. No mention of Al-Qaeda or terrorism.
• Baghdad - ISIL mentioned generally, but not ascribed to these attacks in source.
• Philippines - Source says it's being investigated. No suspects.
• Homs, Syria - Source Doesn't mention ISIL.
• Kabul - Source literally says no one has claimed it.
• Pakistan - Not described as terrorism by source

Flags

I believe that MOS:FLAG and WP:FLAGPLACEHOLDER describe why flags should not be used in the list table in this article and I removed them for that reason. My edit was reverted by LLCoolpp because I hadn't removed the flags from all similar lists. I don't believe that the fact that the flags have not yet been removed from other similar lists is not a valid reason to keep them in this one, so I propose that we remove them. -- DeFacto (talk). 20:10, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

Why do you thing that removing the flags is a good idea? It doesn't improve the quality or readability of the article so I'm curious as to why you think the flags should be removed.StrikeDog (talk) 07:11, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

As per MOS:FLAG, "Flag icons may be relevant in some subject areas, where the subject actually represents that country or nationality...". A terrorist attack that occurs in a country certainly represents that country. WP:FLAGPLACEHOLDER does not apply in this instance because the flag isn't acting as a placeholder for anything, rather it provides a visual aide for determining the countries with recurring terror attacks. If you are not satisfied with this, we can have an admin make the final decision but I would prefer for more editors to voice their opinions before proceeding.StrikeDog (talk) 03:20, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

@StrikeDog: you are right that WP:FLAGPLACEHOLDER doesn't apply, but in what way do you think any of the places listed in the location column represent their countries and are therefore compliant per MOS:FLAG? And no, an admin can't make this decision for us, it is down to editor consensus here. If we can't reach a consensus, then we will have to use Wikipedia:Dispute resolution and possibly get the wider Wikipedia community involved. -- DeFacto (talk). 18:13, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
