The Triplets of Belleville

Someone removed it from the cycling section - I'd just like to point out that the entire film revolves around cycling and that it also probably contains one of the best depictions of the Tour de France to date (there is a long "Tour de France" scene in the film, which is not mentioned in the wikipedia article). In short, I don't see a reason why it SHOULDN'T be included (and I've seen the film, unlike the editor who removed it). I'm putting it back up in a day or so if nobody objects. You forgot the movie about Zidane: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478337/ it goes in the "soccer section", take care. -LEO —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.141.40.57 (talk) 03:34, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Street racing films

I have removed those that feature non-legitimate racing, I mean street racing, as it is not really a sport - it is just men with small penis being d**kheads with cars - meaning it is not at all sport. Donnie Park (talk) 22:42, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Pro wrestling is NOT a sport

Yet another article that treats pro-wrestling as if it is a sport, with no qualification. Even it's own article describes it as sporting theatre, ie, theatre with a sports theme. Pro-wrestling has a significant place in modern western culture. It employs thousands and entertains millions. But it is not sport. HiLo48 (talk) 12:24, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

No response in over a year. Anyone interested yet? If nothing now, I will boldly remove. HiLo48 (talk) 12:56, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Redirects?

Propose redirects - list of boxing films should redirect here to boxing section, etc. thoughts? --Ktoth04 (talk) 19:49, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

I think that's a good idea! Go for it. Erik (talk | contribs) 19:59, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Reality vs fiction

Wouldn't make more sense if this list would be divided into fictional sport movies (complete fiction and based on events dramas), vs Documentaries that actually documents RL sporting events? For example Chaplin is 1915 silent movie the Champion, is a complete fiction. Chaplin was never a boxer and none the result of the fights can be found in the boxing history. While I can see a problem where to include with films like the TV movie that stared David Tennant about the Manchester United and the Munich Air Disaster, I did include it with fiction films since its more drama than being historicially accurate and it includes little or no actual footage of the disaster or actual footage of the United team. But ESPN series 30 on 30 only far as I known, use actuall footage , and talk to actual zport stars and related pepole to said sport, I could qualify a such film to a documentary that actually documents a RL sporting event, and seprate it form fictional sport movies. DoctorHver (talk) 03:05, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Pro wrestlers again

Well, we got rid of the section explicitly about professional wrestling, but now we have heaps of pro wrestling references in the Wrestling section. Pro wrestling is simply not a sport. Even it's own article describes it as sporting theatre, ie, theatre with a sports theme.

I will boldly delete them soon. HiLo48 (talk) 06:39, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Pro Wrestling is considered sport in IMDB.
But not here. Thank you for reminding me to clean up this article. HiLo48 (talk) 05:35, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Would it be appropriate to include films here that only indirectly relate to sports, such as "Two Minute Warning" about a sniper at a football game or "Black Sunday" about terrorists who are plotting against the Super Bowl? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.184.105.42 (talk) 23:00, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Does http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trouble_Along_the_Way qualify, it is John Wayne and football. 86.148.247.238 (talk) 21:37, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

The answer is NO, like that film (Sudden Death) about terrorists holding a ice hockey game to ransom, they are not about sports, more like about an incident. I thought sports film should be about the sport. Donnie Park (talk) 14:53, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

Men and identification

The lead closes with a statement that I find odd: "Men often identify with sports films in ways they wouldn't with other genres, such as spy films." This has been there since 2010 and a couple of thousand edits, so I have to wonder if I'm missing something here. Is it a simple typo, and should read 'would'? If anyone has access to the reference, maybe they could check to see if it has been taken out of context? I think that whatever it says, the context needs expanding upon anyway. --Derek Andrews (talk) 22:53, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Deleted American Football Films

Someone deleted all the American Football Films. Can any of you Wikipedia Wizards restore them without having to do it manually? — Preceding unsigned comment added by MudHenMike (talkcontribs) 01:07, 21 April 2018 (UTC)

Figured out a relatively easy way to do it. Please be careful when editing — Preceding unsigned comment added by MudHenMike (talkcontribs) 19:37, 21 April 2018 (UTC)

Cliffhanger

ive got no idea how to edit or even if this constitutes a sport film , but the stallone movie "clifhanger" is mainly about mountaineering and if the eiger sanction is on the list then this should be ... the film also features base jumping .18:49, 22 June 2018 (UTC)18:49, 22 June 2018 (UTC)18:49, 22 June 2018 (UTC)~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.24.132.255 (talk)

It is strange that Cliffhanger (film) is not included with the other Mountaineering_and_climbing films. I can't imagine any reason why it shouldn't be on the list. -- 109.79.166.202 (talk) 20:59, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

No need for "films" to appear twice in any page title. How about "List of American football films", "List of auto racing films", "List of baseball films", "List of basketball films", "List of boxing films", and the like? Also, no name of a sport should be capitalized unless it (1) starts a sentence or (2) is a proper adjective (such as American football). — Dale Arnett (talk) 16:21, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

Australian Rules is not Rugby

Australian Rules Football #REDIRECT Australian_rules_football is a completely different game from any of the versions of Rugby #REDIRECT Rugby_football so these movies should be in separate categories. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.92.67.179 (talk) 03:28, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Lists

@DoctorHver: How should we list this page i perfer this way it clear and gets to the point Fan Of Lion King 🦁 (talk) 21:41, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

No itsn't clear as many of the most popular sports are only included in the see also list, and many folks have no intrest in some obsicure invidual list sports. The setup I created works much better and is much clearer actually. DoctorHver (talk) 13:14, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Blank sports

Do we really need these blank sports they are all in the template and it just a waste of space 92.236.253.249 (talk) 15:56, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Which sports are you trying to eliminate and why? you were blanking entire sections without providing links to the extended information. This article is used by many readers for the information it contains.JOJ Hutton 16:03, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

The sports with pages already if people want to see them it just littery in the template below 16:07, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

You need to add links within the body to those articles. Not everyone is familiar with templates, plus not everyone uses Wikipedia the same way. Some people read articles that have been printed out. The template wont show those links in those instances.JOJ Hutton 16:29, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
