Please remove iWiW from the list, it has been defunct for a while. It should be added to List of defunct social networking websites, but I can do that part myself.

The use of USA is deprecated per MOS:NOTUSA, and I believe the abbreviation is used twice in this list. Please change it to United States, US, or U.S., editor's preference. Thanks.— TAnthonyTalk 04:16, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Not done, the deprecation does not require that the abbreviation be removed. Nakon 04:24, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
It says "do not use", I would think anyone maintaining this list would not want it there. Also, one of the uses is linked, and per WP:Overlinking, common locations including the United States should not be linked. As a matter of fact, this is currently the only article which links to USA.— TAnthonyTalk 15:51, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

MOS:NOTUSA specifies, Do not use U.S.A. or USA, except in a quotation, or as part of a proper name (Team USA) or formal code (e.g., the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 codes and FIFA country codes). The two uses of USA in this list (the Gaia Online and hi5 entries) do not fall under one of these exceptions. Please change these uses to United States, US, or U.S., editor's preference or per other usage in the list. As of several hours ago this is the only article in mainspace which links to USA. Thanks.— TAnthonyTalk 14:40, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

Noting several without Wikipedia articles mentioned in Aug 2016 WIRED article

The following were mentioned in "Words With Friends: Platonic Dating Apps" (Aug 2016), WIRED, pg. 24. Not sure if this article is available online; source is paper. I'm noting them here as one or more might in the future have an article ... recording my finding while reading, as it were.

Request to add "Gab (social network)" to the list of social media sites.

Please add "Gab (social network)" to the list of social media sites.

The Wikipedia page for GAB is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gab_(social_network) [1]

The GAB site URL is https://GAB.ai [2]

GAB is currently in beta. Registration is open to anyone, by requesting it on their home page (email address required). There is a waiting list, but prospective users can expedite their registration by tweeting to @GetOnGab.

The current (10/7/16) Alexa rank [3] for GAB is: USA - 3,300 World - 19,685

According to FoxNews, GAB now has over 300,000 registered users (subscribers). [4]

GAB has a 300 character limit, as opposed to Twitter's 140 character limit.

Request to add Rooster Teeth.com

It's just silly that Rooster Teeth wasn't added years ago. There's a detailed section on their page, it has been going over 10 years, they have over 2 million members with over 160,000 active in the last two months per the site's Global Stats at the bottom. Not to mention how often members of Rooster Teeth praise their community members. It launched in October 12 years ago.

Launch date: October 4, 2004. Number of registered users: 2,190,656. Who registration is open to: Open to people 13 and older. Alexa ranking: 5,336

I was searching for social media tips today and I came across your awesome article about List of social media networking sites.

Anyway, I couldn’t help but notice that you mentioned Fans Hang Out With Underoath on Stickam.com - Zibb.com on number 278 under references.

This current page doesn’t exist anymore. You might want to remove their URL from your article.

Also, I recently published a tip about famous social media sites. http://www.mybloggertruth.com/2017/09/best-7-social-media-site-traffic.html

Edit Request 10/18/2017

While I am aware that a listed site, Diaspora, has its logo stylized "Diaspora*", I think this should be changed in the list. The presence of an asterisk is not beneficial and only confuses the reader by suggesting a footnote is present when no such footnote exists. The asterisk should be removed from the link. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CreationFox (talkcontribs) 13:54, October 18, 2017 (UTC)

Not done for now: All other notes on the page are in the form of numbers (e.g.[51]) or N+number (e.g., [n 2]). The asterisk does not follow these forms and seems clearly part of the site's name. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 21:05, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

List of major social networks still active

How could you forget to include Fanpop to your list? Fanpop was launched back in 2006, and it has more than a 5 million fans all over the globe?! Fanpop is a general social network for sharing photos and YouYube videos, which also includes quizzes, polls, articles, wikis, fan fiction stories etc. Wikster X (talk) 07:07, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

@Wikster X:, when you added your question, there was a large box at the top of the screen that said: Sites will only be added if they have a Wikipedia article. Fanpop does not currently have an article so rather than being forgotten it does not qualify for inclusion. If you want to request that an article about Fanpop be created you can click this link and follow the directions there. If you want to try creating the article for Fanpop yourself, then you need to read this help page first and I suggest that you use the Article Wizard to help create it. Just a word of warning: no article about Fanpop will last long unless you can provide sources that demonstrate significant coverage of Fanpop by third-party, independent sources with an established reputation for reliability. I hope this helps. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 17:20, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Add 2,000,000 users to Mastodon (sourced https://the-federation.info/mastodon) and 13,219 to Friendica (sourced https://the-federation.info/friendica). Its3c h0 (talk) 17:03, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

Question: @Its3c h0: are you sure it was 2M users for Mastodon and 13,219 for Friendica? I checked those links today and the totals are 1,500,525 users for Mastodon and 13,155 which leads me to think that is not the total number of registered users. ♪♫Alucard 16♫♪ 06:45, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

Request to add nextdoor

Nextdoor is a pretty major social site, and unique in that it is based on your home location, and people need to be verified. They don't give numbers, but they say there's 220,000 neighborhoods currently supported, and in another place they say there's on average 700 people per neighborhood (it takes ten people to start a neighborhood). So that comes out to a pretty big number, if both of those numbers are current, that's about 150 million. Nerfer (talk) 00:54, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

No official launch date but who is data reveals the domain is updated on 2019-07-22. Quora is already in the list of Q&A websites, but it seems to have also built a true community around it, so perhaps also qualifies as a social networking site. infonary.com is a site based on popurls and alltop that brings a single page snapshot of whats happening in social media. Proz.com is not in the Q&A list, but I asked for it to be added there due to its major Q&A component. It's also a social community in a major way, members even organize real meetings in hundreds of cities around the world.

Change redirect from "Social Networks"

"Social Networks" currently redirects to this page, which causes problems for numerous other pages that intend to cross-reference the article "Social network" (which deals with the general concept). That redirect should ideally go to the main "Social network" article, but if this is controversial even the "Social network (disambiguation)" page would be an improvement. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 100.34.229.2 (talk) 16:04, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
