Probable renaming

With the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 having resulted in the overthrow and departure of President Hosni Mubarak, it can be anticipated that the ex-Copeland will very shortly be renamed. Watch out for this. Rif Winfield (talk) 10:19, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Jumping the gun?

@AHMED XIV: - The Mistral class amphibs won't be delivered until March 2016, then who knows how long until they actually get put into service. Yet, you listed them as "current ships" 5 months ago, last September. Is there a reason? (you failed to leave an edit summary, so... ) - ^theWOLFchild 00:32, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

Yes, I added the Mistral as the contract was signed, the deal was officially announced and Egypt paid the whole price for the helicopter carriers, which is all you need to put it in the table. As for being in service, once a ship or even any military product is delivered to the recipient country, it becomes in service. A note for the delivery date was added just to say that they are not in service yet, same thing goes for the (Type 209 submarines) and the (Gowind corvettes). - AHMED XIV (talk) 01:07, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

That is just terribly misleading. They don't even have the ship yet. Plus, this incorrect entry is causing problems for other articles.

@AHMED XIV: - One other thing, unless you can cite a reliable source that states these ships are in active service with the Egyptian Navy, then they definitely should not be listed as "current", they should be listed back under "future". - ^theWOLFchild 02:35, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

No, not under future section, that's for the ships that are still under negotiations and deals that haven't been confirmed yet. I've discussed this before but for the Rafale, Qatar was added as an operator although it hadn't received any rafales yet, I was told that the contract had been signed, that's what they go by. Yes, I know, once they receive the Mistrals they may keep them for training and for fully understanding them before becoming fully operational. Besides, the chief commander of the Egyptian Air Force said in an interview that the Mistrals will begin their first mission soon after delivery. I don't think it's misleading as there is a note explaining this. If you look into the main Mistral article, you'll find that Egypt is an operator already. - AHMED XIV (talk) 02:38, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

Well, it is misleading. That's why we have random editors showing up at other ship-related articles, such as Aircraft carrier and List of aircraft carriers in service (as examples) and making improper changes, likely prompted by this page. I have no idea what you're talking about with "Qatar" and the "Rafales", but this isn't a case WP:OSE and again, there is a difference between ships and aircraft. I'll ask again that you revert yourself and move the Mistrals back to "future", as moving them to "current" is both premature and confusing. Thanks. - ^theWOLFchild 03:03, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

random editors....making improper changes....prompted by this page - The article explains everything and indicates that these ships are yet to be delivered, so how is it that their improper changes are based on what is written on this page? Then that is when it should be listed as "current"... but not until then. Look, I'm not trying to dump on your work here, I appreciate the effort you put into this page. I myself have put a lot of work into cleaning-up the List of current ships of the United States Navy page. Take a look there, or at List of active Royal Navy ships. Ships that are actively in service are listed as 'current'. Ships that are under construction, or have actual contracts in place, are listed as 'future', or 'planned'. The listing here are inaccurate. I only found out because I had to revert changes to other articles about the Egyptian navy. I'm just looking for consistency and accuracy. - ^theWOLFchild 23:33, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

@AHMED XIV: - OK... I see you have just removed the entire "future ships" table. If you're going to go with a single table, and have notes indicating the status of each ship, that could work. But I would still suggest changing the table heading from "current ships" to just "ships", to avoid further confusion. - ^theWOLFchild 23:44, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

Recent Vandalism/Extensive Changes

It would appear that in the past few days the article has been changed from a list reflecting the existing material state of the Egyptian Navy to one that appears more as a hypothetical "shopping list" of possible future acquisitions, including surface combatants and submarines not ordered or even known to have been proposed.
