Talk:List of rivers of Nadia

Anjana River: It is said that Maharaja Krishnachandra Roy of Krishnanagar built the river as a waterway between Churni and Jalangi rivers. But now as a result of unplanned urbanization and development, most of Anjana River has fallen into the hands of the occupiers. The river has lost its normal rhythm due to the oppression of urban people. Somewhere it has taken the form of an isolated pond or lake. At the time of floods, the water level of Jalangi is lower than the water level of Bhagirathi near the estuary,i.e.,in Nabadwip. As a result, the water of Jalangi cannot mix with Bhagirathi, it comes back. Then the main river starts flowing anew on a sloping part. In this way Anjana originated as a tributary of the Jalangi. Originating from Ruipukur Mouza No. 52 near Krishnanagar, Anjana flowed through the Bejikhali junction in front of the Cathedral Church in Krishnanagar and crossed Shaktinagar Zilla Hospital and reached Dogachhi. The river is divided into two parts near Hat Boalia. One part runs through Jalalkhali, Jalkar Patuli, Badakulla, Chandanpukur and falls into Churni river near Baspur mouza No. 34. The other part is originally known as the Hell Canal. Hell canal has gone from Boalia to Jatrapur, Jaipur, Gobindapur, Itaberia and has fallen into the river Churni near Hanskhali. The river Anjana has started losing its normal rhythm since the time of the kings. The period of King Rudra Roy of Krishnanagar was from 1683 to 1694 when the disaster started.Dewan Kartik Kertikeyan Chandra Roy, the father of playwright Dwijendralal Roy, writes in Kshitish Banscharita,"Once upon a time, a Javanese general was crossing the river Anjana. When his like-minded boats arrived at the backyard of all the kings, the Dobaris forbade them to put boats there. The Javanese did not listen to them. Gradually fighting broke out between the two groups and some people were injured. For this reason, Rudra closed the river in agony as he was defeated. Anjana has been separated from Jalangi since then. That tradition is still going on in parallel. Anjana flows along the road several hundred meters wide from Bejikhali junction to Harijan Palli. In this part,Anjana is only known as a river but the reality is different. Even the hoardings of the municipality upon the road do not mention the river Anjana as a river. It clearly reads: "Filling the Anjana canal is a legally punishable offense." Dirt is being dumped in the river. Multi-storey has been built up by occupying the part of the river. The garbage yards have been made down by the crossing of the river at Bejikhali junction. Plastic used in various shops in the vicinity, tea jars, unnecessary flex-banners are all being dumped there openly. Thirty meters away from the rubbish heap, shops have been set up along the river. It is difficult to understand the existence of the river there. The dense weeds about totally block the river. The bituminous roads have been constructed by stopping the course of the river. After crossing the road, Anjana started her journey again and zigzag reached Shaktinagar Zilla Hospital. By 2004, all five sewers of the district hospital had been constructed. All the hospital waste is constantly falling into the river. [1]
