AXJ Party of Puerto Rico

edit

AXJ Party of Puerto Rico (AXJ) doesn't meet notability standards for wikipedia. I am removing until a discussion demonstrates otherwise.

A search in the internal database of El Nuevo Dia, the newspaper of record for Puerto Rico, turned up no mention ever of AXJ Party of Puerto Rico, and a google search turned up 6 hits, all of them from Wikipedia or wikipedia mirrors/forks. All the other groups lists in the "Unofficial" section turn up in many mentions, along with political history books (ie MST's involvement in the 1981 university strike and current leadership of the Teacher's Union, Nationalist Party 1950s insurrection, MINH as a continuation of the PSP, Por Puerto Rico for their media campaings etc etc etc)--Cerejota 04:50, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Intro as of April 18

edit

While there is indeed a domiance of two parties in Puerto Rico, this status is due to the preferences of voters, and not to any systemic issues. The intro as written constitutes original research - in particular WP:SYN -, and a better version is needed.

Perhaps if reliable sources comment on the dominance of the two main parties, we could include a section on this reality, otherwise it is best to leave the reader draw the obvious conclusion.

I was thinking of doing a "Synthesis" tag, but I will be bold and will just re-edit the article. Please understand that this edit is necessary to increase quality of the article. If you disagree and wish to revert/re-edit, do so, but please explain why. No explanation will result in revert without further discussion.--Cerejota 05:10, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think I have cleaned up the page enough. It took me a while to realize the sorry state of this page, but it is fixed now. Or so I think. :P --Cerejota 06:19, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Puerto Ricans for Puerto Rico Party

edit

I am removing it from the list of officially recognized parties, as they are not yet officially recognized. Acording to the State Elections Commision, press reports, and their own website, they have submitted 110,000 endorsement signatures, which is much more than those required for inscription.

However, this doesn't meet the criteria for inclusion in the list of recognized parties. A party is not automatically recognized when they submitted the signature, but according to the electoral law must pass through a process of examination and certification.

However they do represent a special case that deserves mention, as in all probability they should be recognized in the coming months. As such I am creating a "Pending Recognition" section. Since this is clearly a list of parties, further elaboration should happen in the Puerto Ricans for Puerto Rico Party page, and in the State Elections Commision page.--Cerejota 06:11, 28 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

"Official" parties

edit

This is a problem of translation. In english, "official" usually means that the party is supported by the goverment, usually as part of a Single-party system. For example: "The Cuban Communist Party is the official party of Cuba". Another usage, mostly British, is to refer to the the party in power in a Multi-party system.

In most of the Spanish-speaking world, "oficial" or more commonly "oficialista" also has this meaning.

In Puerto Rican Spanish, "oficial" usually refers to "official recognition" as in "officially recognized", which could be rendered shorter and possibly better as a wikipedia heading as "Registered Parties", rather than "Official Parties". I am going to be bold and change it back to my orginal rendering, and ask that this be discussed before changing. I am also editing the template navbox.--Cerejota 22:20, 12 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
