Talk:List of people of Hungarian origin

Some names have an asterisk appended, what's the purpose? // Gargaj 18:18, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's mentioned in the introduction – even if it could do with some rewording:

A list of famous Hungarian Jews can be found at List of Hungarian Jews, and overlaps with that list are starred.

Many of the people on this list simply do not belong in it: Imre Kertész, for example, who has lived all his life (except when forcibly removed to a concentration camp) in Hungary. Many of the Nobel Prize winners, certainly Albert Szent-Györgyi, did much of his work in Hungary, I simply do not see why he would be on such a list either.

I think that the only good conceptual approach to such an article (if it is even necessary) is to list people of Hungarian origin who were either born outside (historical) Hungary, or were taken out of it as a child. Anyone who went to university there, or who ever worked in Hungary, should be listed with other prominent Hungarians in the List of Hungarians article.

The starring of Hungarian Jews I find offensive, but I'd rather not get into it right now. Can we look forward to someone compiling a list of prominent Hungarian Catholics, Calvinists, Lutherans, Unitarians and atheists?  :) Gsandi 15:29, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
