Merger with Opera Corpus list?
editShould this list be merged with the Opera Corpus list, now at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera, but shortly to be made into a public page?
I understand that operetta is treated by Wikipedia (as indeed it is by Grove) as a genre of opera.

- I would favour a merger, for the following reasons:
- The List has to be altered by hand, as does the Opera Corpus, and one list is better than two. This argument also applies to the List of operas.
- There is no clear dividing-line between opera and operetta, even if there are works which clearly fall into one category and not the other.
- Anyone wanting a list of operettas could find one at Category:Operettas.
- I also vote for a merger. Guillaume Tell's second reason (the lack of a clear dividing line between the genres) is particularly compelling. Marc Shepherd 14:07, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
- I have started implenting the merger. Obviously it will take some time. - Kleinzach 00:51, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Italian operettas
editDear Sir, I would like to see listed some of the italian operettas. You may go to :Casa Musicale Lombardo for more informations. With all my regards, CARLA
Good idea, Carla. Please could you add them for us, since you seem to be more familiar with them than we are. -- Derek Ross | Talk 17:41, 2004 Jul 16 (UTC)
Sometimes, is very hard to translate the names of operettas, if they are orginally in german or hungarian. My english is not very good, and I am not sure, if I should translate them. Because of my bad english, I have problem to write the plot to the operettas, eventhough I can lot of them. I can try, but I really welcome some correction of my text. Thank You. Peter
- We have some rules for titles of operas, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera. Briefly, we do not invent English titles for German works unless they are in common use. For East European works, however we do try to use English as long accented names can be impractical in Czech or Hungarian.
Merger completed
editThe merger is now completed and this page will become a redirect. - Kleinzach 19:33, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
